Question for season'd 2600 developers
Does anyone have any idea if the atari 2600 can produce DTMF telephone tones? Im looking into something... fun. If the 2600 can do DTMF, then i will be happy. If i play my cards right, im thinking I can use a portable 2600 as fun little tool.

Lets pretend i know how to code for the 2600 for a little while...
Well, im an old school phone phreak, so i know some fun stuff to do with the phone system. Ill need to make some basic DTMF tones. Now, ive been lightly reading into the 2600 hardware / software stuffs'. The 2600 has 8-bit controller inputs. I can easyly hook up a DTMF decoder chip to it and get the to display tones on the screen. Always a usefu device. I can have it ENCODE DTMF to dial into stuff. I might even be able to hook in a homebrew keyboard and hook it to an FSK modem for a TTY terminal. I might even be able to rig it up to have a serial terminal. I might be able to use it to control LED signs, or capture and playback IR. Now, this is all a farshot, but it would be fun to attempt. The idea is sound, i dont know if the 2600 can handle it though.
I could use a GBA or GBx, but the coding for that is a bit out of my scope, and i dont have time to learn a whole new language. And the GBA has limited serial communications, not good...
