Windows XP

I've been saving up for a new gaming computer and can afford at the most $450. I already have hard drives/video cards(128mb)/floppy and cdrom drives/sound and network cards. All I need is a motherboard cpu power supply and case. I noticed this will cost me about $200 if I buy it at my local computer show. My question for you guys is how am I supossed to get Windows XP for games and what cpu to get. Like AMD or Pentium.

you can get it at newegg.com. Their service is awesome. The one catch is that you have to buy hardware with it, but it can be a $2 mouse. As for the computer shows, I used to love them, but I went to one today. It really sucked. 1/3 of the building was what it was supposed to be, good computer software and hardware at decent prices (though nothing too special) the next third was so-so. Electronic gadgets and car stereo stuff here and there, but not computer related. The final third would make me think I'm at the wrong place. They were selling things like watches, jackets, and even nothing but bras at one booth

Edit: forgot to mention that it's as low as $90 for XP home, and it's actually legal

Mine is awesome a bunch of Japenease guys who sell AMD Anthalon XP cpus for $40 sometimes

Windows XP, just pirate it. Get a socket 939 athlon 64 if you can afford it, if not, go with a faster sempron or athlon xp.

Keep in mind that Microsoft cant keep track of all windows copies. You can share one copy with multiple people, you just have to register the copy months apart. They most likely will over look it.

I'm running a pirated windows xp on my computer, my laptop, my mom's computer, and my neighbor's computer. All are connected to the internet. Why would that make any difference?

Microsoft is a big fat greedy trust company. If they see any one copy of their software on more than one computer without the owner having paid extra for multiple machines they will fill a suit or what not to have you remove the software or get money for the other installations.

Microsoft checks for the reg keys with windows update, just turn it off and you'll have no problem from them

Yeah but i thought you needed windows update. I mean I update my RedHat Kernal from time to time.

You can still run windows update, just get a key that isn't blocked.
