mobo splitting?

and some mobos can be split but!!!! there are also mobos with layers in the middel which you don't see and if you have one of those it won't be possible

Please review the rules, because there's a rule against using AIMbreviations (as I like to call them) and 313375p34k . Forums are not AIM, there is no hurry to enter your posts, so there is no need to type that way. AIMspeak makes you look like a re.. er I mean "special* person". (gotta be politically correct here...)

As far as splitting motherboards goes, you might be able to split a VCS motherboard, but when you can get the board down to a 4" square (Ben's mod) or even less than three inches square (gannon's PCB), there's no need.

A lot of motherboards have a hidden set of traces inside the fiberglass, and reconnecting these is not worth the effort. (Besides the fact that it would be darn near impossible anyways.)

NES boards? Forget about it. It would be smaller to use a Super Fun Joy Mech Game Player Game NOAC controller (the most common around here is the Super Joy 3)

Same goes for the Sega Genesis, just buy a Radica controller, because it has a Sega-On-A-Chip.

No. The only mobo discovered to be "split"able was the Atari 2600 4-switch...

it would probably be too much work for what it would be worth. Even if you pick a spot that seems to have few lines, there are other traces inside the motherboard. Also, soldering would be a pain in the butt.

I think this sums it up: If you have to ask, you can't do it.

Theoretically, yes. Practically, no. I f it could be done, Ben would definitely have done it by now.
Here's what you'd have to do:
Take a photo so you know where the traces go
Cut the board with a coping saw and bandsaw
Use millions of tiny wires to re-connect the traces
And it would only work for double-sided boards.

In other words, No. The only circuit boards you can split are those like some controller boards (only have one green side, the other is brown.)

I'm pretty sure the N64 mobo is only 2 layers (don't take my word for it though). I was looking into splitting it to make a smaller portable, but in the end decided the amount of work to rewire everything just wouldn't be worth it.

it'd be WAY more work to split the mobo rather than just making the portable thinner and with the proper mobo dimensions (at the least
