Well I would say Asian, because that’s me. It's strange how Americans (I will use this term very loosely to avoid confusion, besides I was born in America. Just my family keeps their culture, and so do I. Anyway, I mean most white males around my age, and younger) react to people "invading" their counter-cultures. Everyone wants to be unique and "special". Gothic people want to be "different", geeks want to be “differentâ€Reaperman@home wrote:What do you call somebody who owns at least one mp3 player, plays video games, watches cartoons/sci-fi/fantasy programming, and can't stand a day without the internet.

Seriously.
At school, I'm kind of on my own because everyone around me is a mindless Microsoft drone. (Both to Xbox and Windows) I'm probably the only one who prefers the PS2 over the GCN or XB. I like the PS2 because it has some pretty kickarse games and I like the controller layout. (Always have since the SNES/PSX). They like the GCN because it's what their moms bought for them 3 years ago, and they like the Xbox because everyone else likes the Xbox. There are only 2 reasons I'd buy either system:
GCN
1. Game Boy Player: basically the only legal, easily accessible way to play GBA games on the TV
2. ... um... Because it's cheap?
Xbox
1. To softmod it with Linux so I can use it as an internet/multimedia set-top box.
2. Xbot.
And then comes their obsession with Windows and Office. They all paid out their arses for commercial software, while I'm laughing my head off with a wallet full of $$$ because I downloaded free software. Then they go and tell the principal that I was downlaoding software "illegally" at school, but then I showed him the download links on openoffice.org and the AbiWord site, and then THE OTHER GUYS got busted for "causing a disruption"
And cars? Pfft. Forget about it. They're all driving crapola like '88 Monte Carlos and Neons, half of which burn oil. Seriously, the school parking lot is full of rat-bombers which are 90% Bondo, 5% duct tape. Me? '99 Saturn, <70k miles on it, thankyouverymuch. Last time I filled up ($2.60 for gas! woot!
) I got roughly 39MPG.
The only problem is that sometimes people driving Hummers won't notice you exist until you flash your lights or honk the horn or something, but they're probably on cell phones anyways.
(funny story, one of my neighbors got her license, and a month later she was driving around in her mom's station wagon with 6 of her friends. (they were probably talking to each other on their cell phones.
) Well, she went off the road, in between a telephone pole and the guide wire, through a ravine, and over a bunch of jagged granite. Tore the whole suspension/drivetrain out of the car, and gouged up the underside something bad, leaking gasoline and oil all over the place. Everyone was OK, though. True story! That's what happens when you're doing 50 MPH on a twisted, hilly road. with over 900-1000 pounds of weight on the car.)
My cell phone? A Nokia 282 ca. 1999. Bought it from Ames for $100 new. Everyone else gfets new phones before their first month of service is up, I've gone through 2 batteries with this thing. It can dial, pick up, let me talk to someone else, and hang up. That's all a cell phone needs to do! I couldn't care less about sending text and pictures to others! I mean just sending "hay how r u?" costs a copulating DIME!
Stupid ripoff contracts. I'll just stick with TrakPhone. ($20/mo. for a prepaid card with 40 minutes on it. That just shows you how much I use the thing.
)
So yeah, I don't do what everyone else does. So what? What the hell is the world, Nineteen Eighty-Four? I think not!

about the cell phones and cars etc, we have a few of whom i call "ricers" at our school, most pople drive pos cars that they tear up ,my "friend" mark is a total retard with his car, many people do (realy depressing) burnouts in cars with next to no HP, i cant drive my car yet but it is by far one of the best cars and could probably stomp all of em into the dirt in a straight line drag, would suck in the 1/4 but man would it haul ass, spedo goes to 120 and this engine has almost 50HP over the original stock one
it weighs a ton tho (2 actualy

It's funny, my school seems to be the total opposite of everyone elses, most people are quite good at computers (software wise, they wouldn't know a CPU from a phonebook unless you told them). I have about 15 aquantinces that I know have built their own PCs and theres prolly about 50 more I don't know of. The one thing my school has is gamers, lots and lots of gamers, most people don't know a lot (theres a couple of really popular girls in my class that have old SNESes and play SMB all the time) but there are quite a few people who will spend hours argueing about the next-gen systems.

Well I'm going to go with the definition they have on wikipedia. That a Geek is really nothing more then a person with average intellegence that is very expericance and knowlegable in one select area.
The pop cultur has that defused with simple idea that anyone that plays gaming consoles or the popular computer games, then your a gaming geek. Or some other thing.
