ps2p question

Post by infernomance »

i have questions before i start a PS2 portable:
1.is it possible to put it back together easily if anything doenst work?
2.how hard is it to do it?
3.how expensive is the laser cut cases and how hard?

off-topic:
i heard that theyre are development kits for Nes-PS1 and a thing that lets you import a game that uses a cartridge,is this true?cause iv always wanted to see how hard it is to make a game, sicne iv made several on the computer and 2 in development

To answer your questions:
Depends, if it doesn't work because its fried, then no. If it doesn't work because the disc clearance or the controller is messed up, maybe yes.
Very difficult, Ben Heckendorn has said that the PS2 is his hardest project Not to mention that only 3 in the world exist.
Laser cases are pretty exspensive. You have to pay for hourly rates, and for the operators' time, and obviously the cost of the plastic. You might also have to pay to have your design entered into the computer for use.
Now to reply to the other posts:
They have an online store, and ebay is always a good place for buying stuff like this. Don't forget thrift stores, and garage sales.
And, about the PS2. There are only 3 people who can help you with that, and Ben has said that the PS2 is his hardest portable. I'm not sure if Segasonicfan still posts here, and he has taken down his PS2P tutorial. Elixir hasn't posted since he finished his (maybe to busy playing it?). So for now your on your own. We can provide you with information, but none of us have any experience with PS2P'ing quite yet. If you are up to it go for it, but be warned people who start with difficult projects end up spending a lot of money, not to mention the frustration they feel when they cannot complete something. Sometimes leading to dropping the hobby altogether.
Good luck and welcome to portablization,

I couldn't agree more! If you haven't done any portables (or attempted at least) then stop now. Work on something easier and cheaper such as a portable genesis/nes/snes and then work your way up from there.

Making console games are substantially harder than programming computer apps, because you have to use assembly, rather than having a several different languages to choose from. For the NES, you need to use 8-bit assembly, 16-bit for SNES, and 32-bit for PS1.

They're harder, but I doubt you'd have to drop to assembly on any of them. I'm positive that there are plenty of higher-level options for NES and PS1--not too sure about snes, but there must be something available.
