You could make a USB powered...
light! :D
Radio! (listen to some tunes while in the school's library)
Fan!
pencil sharpener!
Game Boy power adapter!
Babbling brook! (one of those rock things that pump water and sound like a small river running)
NESp! (you-know-who made one ;))
anything else that runs on 5 volts or less!

(USB puts out 5v, something like 360ma or something like that right off the bus, more if you have a powered hub)

Tell me what you do with it, I've got a couple dozen I don't know what to do with! 8)

Use it as a whip. When not in use coil it ogether on your belt (which should also be made of a USB cable), and TA-DAAAA! You're a futuristic version of Indiana Jones! Don't forget the fedora made of floppy disks :P

Closer to 500mA actually. This is another reason why FireWire rocks, up to 30V @ 1.5A.

Make a power bar that cuts power to peripherals when you turn off your computer. It's simple, just connect a relay to the power from the USB cord.

Right on, brother! I plan on using my LCD screen enclosure as a goldfish aquarium, powered by Firewire. I could have some lights, and maybe a 12v fan moving the water around... Time to bust out your 7812s!

You just power a radio with the 5V from the computer. Just find simple schematics for a radio that can run on 5VDC.
