Hey guys, I decided to pleasure the computer nerd in me by reading about FireWire for a while. Anyways, I realized that I've never had a computer with FireWire, so I decided to see who here does have FireWire ports.

yep i added them myself (along with usb 2.0) i use it to capture vidoe and for my external hard drive

No, but I plan to add them myself eventually.

I am fine with USB 2.0 at the moment though.

My video card is DVI rather than a VGA-type 15-pin D-Shell, though. ^^ That is pretty cool, especially since I can use it to have dual monitors from the same card with my adapter.

my iBook has a firewire, and my main desktop has one that I technically added myself, though I said that it came with anyway. The reason for this is that I built my computer, and the motherboard came with a firewire thing (it takes an expansion slot on the case, but it goes right to the mobo, no card) Here's what I think tips the scale: I did not go out of my way to get the firewire, it just came with the mobo I bought. If it didn't have one, I would not have purchased a card or anything.

I also plan to add it if I get a new video card for my old computer. USB 2.0 is good at 480Mbps, but that doesn't compair to 800Mbps. Unfortunately, devices that use FireWire cost a bit more than USB, but the speed is worth it, and it's peer-to-peer. It's just too bad that when the speeds of FireWire go up(supposedly they'll go up to 3.2Gbps eventually, that's 409.6MBps), you'll have to upgrade your FireWire hardware to support those speeds.

I thought FireWire went at 400 mbps, USB2.0 at 480. Now, perhaps FireWire is becoming like SCSI? That would be so confusing.

ok ive got firewire 400, firewire 800, and usb 2.0

all came with my comp.

oh and kudos to anyone who know who invented the firewire (IEEE1394) bus.
