There are viruses that propogate like wildfire through AIM. Such as one that, once your PC is infected, it sends itself to EVERYONE in your "Buddy List" (or whatever it is called )

Besides, if we install a free chat script to a 100webspace account or something, and it gets hacked, then it's no big deal. It can be reset, and the forums are always still there. However, if your computer gets hit with an AIM virus, then you're out of comission until you fix it.

Funny you should mention phpbb hacks, nos, because there are chat box add-ons for phpbb that we might be able to try (on a 100webspace install of phpbb or somehting). I'll see if I can find that list of chat scripts I tried (or we can write our own... *hint* ).

Look who's talking Mr. I-abandoned-the-forums-for-months

I like skype- when it works- it's a pretty good setup. But since dial-up can only connect 50% of the time, and lots of members don't have mics, I don't think we should depend soley on a voice program. Come on, I thought you guys were Ãœber programmers and all that, can't we just get a simple chat program going?
