Voice chat tonight/every saturday?

Well, it looks like the weekly chats are completely dead, unfortunately

.....but what if we could bring them back?!? well, how 'bout it guys? We could do voice chatting, like me, sponge, and zack did (maybe more, I dunno...I was tired as hell and just went to sleep). or would you guys prefer a normal chat room?....anyway, perhaps we should start doing these again, I dunno.

I still say we should set up a php chat room like the one on Kingdom of Loathing. (you log in, and it just has 3 fields: a text entry field, a field which shows the chatting (it can scroll when it gets full), and a "chat" button which submits the text to the chat.

It uses many basic chat commands, for example "/w" lists everyone in the room, and "/c room_name" would send you to the room "room_name". It can send privatre messages with "/msg message_goes_here", and other such functions. It would be great if we could use it somehow, because it's basic so it won't eat tons of bandwidth (All that needs to be loaded is the new text), and it is cross-platform and works behind firewalls with no chance of transmitting viruses through it.

I remember writing down a few php chat systems somewhere, let me try and find them.

Because people behind routers cannot use IRC. Not to mention all the viruses that get transmitted through IRC and Java...

I would really be up for anything. I have skype, AIM, yahoo, and msn so whatever. It'd be great to have a chat room such as the one bicostp described, but if that would be too much work I'm sure we could chat using some instant messenging program.

I'm all for bicostp's idea. Sounds quick, simple and secure... I sound like an advertisment... the only word I need to add is "fun"... and maybe "free."

Using open source stuff is easier to hack, that's why there's so many phpBB hacks. You're better off writing your own PHP script if you're good with security.

I think everyone should get AIM, Jeff is good at rounding people up for a chat.

I'm sorry but I would have to disagree.

There are viruses that propogate like wildfire through AIM. Such as one that, once your PC is infected, it sends itself to EVERYONE in your "Buddy List" (or whatever it is called

)

Besides, if we install a free chat script to a 100webspace account or something, and it gets hacked, then it's no big deal. It can be reset, and the forums are always still there. However, if your computer gets hit with an AIM virus, then you're out of comission until you fix it.

Funny you should mention phpbb hacks, nos, because there are chat box add-ons for phpbb that we might be able to try (on a 100webspace install of phpbb or somehting). I'll see if I can find that list of chat scripts I tried (or we can write our own... *hint*

).

Yeah, I'm still all for that idea. I got rid of AIM because I don't use it enough.

Edit: Soooo... *looks at clock* it IS tonight. Do we have anything yet?
