thats probably going to end up looking like mine. The screen will prolly NOT fit in the NES controller (2 stacked on top of each other), So it would probably end up looking similar to the one I am making with the cart on top. But I assume your case will be much better than mine, a lot better if you vacuum your case.

You need to do a lot of cramming though, You need to be able to rewire the controller through the glop, and fit bolth the controller and the power player inside a NES controller case.

EDIT: Oh I believe you arent using one of those, your using a GBA thing, correct? I think that one may even need to be bigger.

ok
LETS GET IT ON jk but it would be sweet and the idea of having it in the controller you could always use the back for the controller like put it on top and cut a whole for the screen and everything else like speaker it would look nice

I dunno. I designed this unit to do what I wanted to do. The only thing special I would add would be TV out, Headphone jack, and a clock. (Dont ask why a clock, I was asked to add it in. And i just need to find that thing...)

AS for the competition, I dunno. Im really just making something I like. If this one truns out good, and the hipgear screen is good, I may make more. Though Im not shure anyone would want one.

OK 2 things. I was wondering...
1 Does it have a power LED? I didnt see one on the scans...
2. was the hip gear screen easy to work with? I'm working with one eventually and I want to know If you have any measurements of the screen and things,(Length, width, thickness) and Also How easy was it to set up?

1) No power LED. It seemed kinda pointless since the screen backlight comes on when you turn it on and it gets darker as the betterys get lower. That and an LED would take extra power.

2) Hip Gears are a pain in the rear! I know how to work with them now so they aren't that big of a pain as they were when I started. The orange LCD cable broke on the first screen, I had audio amp wiring trouble, and then the screen was too dark. I sort of fixed the darkness problem with a couple contrast and color pots, but it still looks dark. Probably because it is meant to run on 8V not 6V.

I did almost no measuring on this thing. I just put a part in the case and looked to see if it fit. Real scientific. The whole time I was making the thing I wasn't even sure the screen would fit. Thankfully it did

Alright! I finally fixed the battery (batterie? batterey?) problem. here is what I had trouble with: When the batterys were fully charged, the screen ran fine, because the batterys were at 1.4V each. But once the battery's started getting power taken from them, they quickly (in about 20 minutes) dropped to 1.2V each. That's only 4.8V! Not enough for the backlight to work right, and it was unplayable.

/\ Boring but informative /\

So what I did was turn the 4 AA compartment into a 5 AAA compartment. That way I had 6V when they dropped to 1.2V each :) Problem solved.

I also replaced the velcro since it wasn't holding it shut anymore. I put a "Super Rare Earth Magnet" in place of the velcro. I got it from those smart and friendly friendly radio shack people. It only took 2 weeks of asking for them to order the damn magnet! And of course they told me it would be in one week, then when I got there "it's another week. Sorry." :x anyways, it works awesome! Once the lid gets to about a 45 degree angle you can just let it slip into place. It's very cool. And it's easy to pry off, yet will never fall off accidentally :)

/\ also informative /\

Anyways, to the pics before you fall asleep!

Image
It was quite tricky to fit the AAA's in there. I had to take a 2 AAA holder and a 3 AAA holder, cut off the sides, dremel certain areas, dremel the GBO case some, then wire and hot glue in place.

Image
The magnet was easy! Remove old velcro, superglue in place, paint over. It's a very small, but powerful magnet. I plan to use them for my battery llids on my N64P.

Image
Screen playing Ninja Gaiden. The picture looks very washed out and blurry due to the camera (stil getting used to it ya see...), but it's very clear and crisp in real life.

Image
One other small improvement I did was to get rid of that awful electrical tape around the screen edges. It looked awful. Instead I used permanent marker. It scratches every now and then, but it's easy to fix, and it looks ood.

One thing I am goona fix later (I'n too tired right now..), every now and then the contrast will all a sudden just turn off. Thwapping the case restores it, so I guess it's a loose solder lead.

I'll be taking pics of the whole system when there is some good light (I can do that now that I have a camera!), it's been really dark and gloomy these days. Oh, and I'll make a page for it. Maybe with a short how-to.

Very nice G-force,
I don't see anything wrong with your screen but if it bugs you this might be a good fix. For the screen, maybe you could trace it to another piece of plastic, cut it out, mask the screen area, and paint the back. Oh, and nice paint scheme!

Good idea, and I thought of doing that, but the screen protector is fine now. Before it was awful looking :P

Power Pad? I don't even know what that is! :P I'll google it later :)

its similar to a ddr pad and it was used on the NES to play the track meet game (you would hit one button then another over and over again to run) and a couple other games too.

Oh yeah! My bro bought one of those a long time ago, I just never realized what it was for. We bought it, and we forgot it (thats the nintendo gaget way). I was actually gonna convert it into a DDR mat for my sis, but never got around to it.

btw, I fixed the contrast problem thing. Turns out that I accidentally got the + and - wires for the adjusting the screen over a screwpost and screwed throught the wire, lightly connecting the leads. That was why thwacking the case fixed it, it disconnected the wires temporarily. It was easy to fix thankfully :)

It is now 100% done. Celebration time! *goes off to play, or rather "die", Ninja Gaiden*
