Man I hate the school's library computers!

my high school got new laptops in may. you can write to the HD, but when u log off everything is deleted. anything fun i can do with command prompt? I have access to it

Last year I did a netsend from the command prompt "Hi all", and I got a OSS for 3 days. Which reminds me how most school admins have a lack of profiency and are way too defensive (they can't even take a joke like the above!)

My school thought that their wireless network was secure. It had no encryption and the SSID was common knowledge

Isnt it funny that we're what half the age of all these people, not even out of high school and are making them look bad at the sheer power we can do.

Me I'd do more hacking in the school's networks but as I said linux/Unix is block and I'm more proficiant with that then I am with DOS command line.

My schools computers are a joke. They disabled everything but I found away around that in about 5 min, all you need is to know how to make batch files and use a proxy. I wanted something a bit harder to do, so I made it my soul mission to get everyones password...and so far I have been unable too. They did a very good job of protecting the SAM file but botched everything else

I did that in one of my classes last year, and the message was sent to the whole district, and when people in my class realized it was me, they asked how to do it. After I told them, there was messages flying back and forth. When the tech guys came to find out who it was, they got a list of 20 computers, so I didn't get in trouble.

my computer lab teacher is much smarter than anyone else i've ever had. I don't think I can get away with anything. Before working at my school, she had a job in tech support, and she probably knows more about computers than I do.

Maybe most school tech people think the kids are stupid or something...

Of course, we are of a generation that grew up with computers, so for us, using them seems more instinctive. For the generation born after the start of the new millenium, this may even be more so. I wouldn't be surprised to see five year olds surfing the web and getting around their parent's protective systems. Heck, I was successfully navigating DOS shell and basic command line at 4 or 5.

I remember when I was about 5 or 6, I had a Mac SE. I was already installing extentions on it, running a bunch of games ("Banzai!", "Let's Get Tanked!" [a tank game similar to Combat on the VCS], and of course Lode Runner), and I was already setting up a LaserWriter II via LocalTalk on a PhoneNet LAN. (A blazing 9000 baud!

) Of course I wasn't afraid of screwing the system up because back in those days the entire system fit on a floppy, so if I ever really screwed it up I could boot off a floppy and copy the entire system back over!

Messing with SCSI ID numbers, playing a tactical war game over AppleTalk with my dad on his borrowed-from-work Mac II, playing with MacPaint... good times, good times.

And now all those good times live again with Basilisk II and my Motorola Starmax 4000 Mac clone, which has all my old Mac stuff on it from the old game Abacus to Word 5.1a. (in all about 5 gigs of classic computer software)

Around 8 or 9, I pulled out the old TI 99/4A computer, and managed to get a little animated dude to dance across the screen. Of course back then you had to program all the games yourself, especially since I had no cartridges for it. (Still have the audiocassette I saved some stuff to, though.)

I wish I had a spare one, I'd love to make a laptop version with a PSone screen... Maybe someday...

Yeah I envy you guys I didnt get a computer til I was 10, and it had Windows 95. So I didnt get into too much stuff like you did. Ofcourse couldnt becuase no one in my house used computers before then. I could have been better but my school used Macs (all the way up to my junior year). So there was little consistency.

Oh well once I learn Basic, and get some vintage computer stuff I'll really have fun. I dont like the modern OSs too much, way to restrictive on who can do what, esspecally Windows.

I thought Sparkfist was talking about me there. I got my first computer when I was 9 or 10, and didn't get internet until I was almost 11. My elementry school(K-7) mostly had Apples, and only a couple IBMs. I think that is why I don't like Macs very much, because the ones we had were extremely limited compaired to the PCs. Even with the computers, we never really got to use them a lot, because they were all in fairly small room, so there was only enough for 1 class at a time. In grade 7 when the school got a couple more used IBMs, I started messing with them more, and managed to wipe the whole database once.

I hate it that my school uses Macs. The servers are crap, so the computers go down every hour. Because of this, everyone I know thinks Macs suck, when they really dont, its the servers that are crap.

On my school's new DELL's, I had a LINUX boot up disc, and erased Windows, LITERALLY, and installed LINUX. I framed some kid and he got Banned from the library computers. I laughed at the fact that 'he got banned for installing a BETTER OS'
