Well, I think that I might have to go to the hospital. When I was opening up my old PC case to take the mobo out, i sliced my right hand index finger trying to pull the darned thing out. Now, it's not as bad (since I put gauze and 4 band-aids and some tape), but i still think that it'll need stiches. Anyways, anyone have any tips for pulling this mobo out? the back panel with the ps/2 and USB ports is stuck. (I wrote this entire thing in 5 minutes with one hand and 0 mistakes. shows how much you CAN do with only one hand)

Yeah you may want to get that checked out.

Maybe when you get back you could try a dremel or a drill. I think there might be some rivets on that piece.

well, its better (kinda). It stopped bleeding, and it should be better in a week or two.

well, I think that electronic parts are kind of ment to stay in one place, but if it's a motherboard and you got cut, I can belive that, uh, I would disinfect it just in case

totokan, do you mean that the backpanel connectors are stuck to the backpanel, or that the backpanel is stuck to the case? Or both?

i got it out, there was a hidden screw. Now, i get a beep code, 1 long 9 short. on the mobo manufacturer's site, it says 9 short means 'ROM BIOS checksum error'. What does that mean? (The MOBO, RAM, Video card, case, and psu are all brand-new within the range of a month old. the HD is new-ish)

ROM BIOS Checksum error means that the computer has noticed a hardware change, and wants to let you know in the most obnoxious way possible (aside from exploding). Ussually you can make it shut-up by going into the BIOS during boot-up and select "load defaults". Or simply go into the BIOS and then save and exit.

well, after it does that, in like 10 seconds it shuts itself off. http://www.asrock.com/support/faq.asp?Model=General is where i got the beep code thing from. BTW, that makes sense. It should tell me the hardware is different, because it is.

Cut your finger up huh. Sounds like what happened to my finger tips when I was working with a POS case. Basicly half through I found my finger tips were bleeding all over, those sharp edges were like knive blades.

As to what you want to do to protect yourself.... Be more careful. The only gloves I could suggest are latex, and they dont work that well against sharp edges.

Hope you dont have to have the thing amputated.

I prefer computers that keep such notifications to themselves- just quitely accept new hardware, no questions asked.

It's better now. And thats what it was like, i didn't even notice. In fact, I put my finger BACK in after i cut it and made it deeper by accident. It's much better now. I have gauze than surgical tape, and than the finger of a glove on it. It keeps it clean(ish) until it heals. Still, i'm glad i'm lefty.

There might be a reset switch or jumper on the mobo. Try and find a tact switch omewhere on it and press it. If it's a jumper then you'd hae to consult the user's guide.

I mean, if it doesn't work now, what have you got to lose? (I am fairly certain that this might sole the problem.)

there's a CMOS jumper pin, that what you mean? EDIT: i jumped it the way the instructions said to (unplugged with a paperclip for 3 seconds) and now i get a 10th beep almost instantly after the 9th. 10 means CMOS shutdown read/write error. huh?
