If someone can translate the PSP's power to x86 power, then you could use this data for Windows OS specs. (I am pretty sure these are accurate. I have personally tested the 98 and XP minimums.)

Windows 95
MINIMUM: 386DX-20MHz (If BIOS supports the OS) and 4MB RAM
RECOMMENDED: any 486-class processor and 8MB RAM

Windows 98
MINIMUM: 486DX2-66MHz and 8MB RAM
RECOMMENDED: any Pentium-class processor and 16MB RAM

Windows 2000
MINIMUM: Pentium 133MHz and 32MB RAM
RECOMMENDED: any 6x86 processor 233MHz and 64MB RAM

Windows XP
MINIMUM: Pentium 166MHz and 64MB RAM
RECOMMENDED: any 6x86 processor 350MHz and 128MB RAM, 256MB RAM after updates(?)

Note: Last I heard, Longhorn/Vista will have a recommended processing requirement of 800MHz or so, but this may have changed. Judging from current patterns, I forseesee an initial minimum of 256MB RAM, Recommended @ 512MB, and 768-1024MB after updates.

I actually installed Windows 95, off floppies, onto a 386 DX33 with 4 megs RAM once. AND got it go online.

(The whole post is a bit off topic, talking solely about WIN 95 install methods. If you don't want to waste the time reading, don't, there is no PSP stuff here. Word of warning.)

Yes, when installing Windows 95 you can do freaky stuff...

I wish I had all my disks, but I don't have disk 9 of the 95 setup disks anymore... so I backed up my CD (full and upgrade) copies of 95A onto a 100MB Zip Disk each by taking out the extras and leaving just the OS and drivers. (Don't nag with me on legality, I still have the original CD and product code, it's just a 'backup' for older machines.

That way I can install it on any machine with a normal floppy drive to get the ZIP drivers from, Windows 3.x, and a parallel port. That's how I did it with my laptop. I can either install from the upgrade directly or 'trick' the full install disk into not finding WIN 3.1 (Which you need to do with a full, since you need the WIN 3.1/95 OS to run the drivers of the Iomega External (Parallel) 100MB Zip Disk. If anyone gets one to work in straight DOS, lemme know. ^^

Yeah, Win 98 on minimum takes forever too. It took a good 6 hours total.

Current Vista requirements:

1.5GHz Pentium 4 (or AMD equivalent)
2GB Ram (only 1GB if in 32-bit mode, the OS is built from the ground up as a 64-bit operating system)
64MB Video Card

I know, it sounds insane. Microsoft is Insane. They've made the step up to Vista an enormous leap instead of a gradual incline like previous OS hardware step-ups. The 3D capable video card is required for the newly reworked user interface, which relies on vector graphics (a fancy word they use to describe real-time rendering) instead of normal image graphics (where all of the tool bars and etc are stored images). Nice thing is the font, tool bars, and everything else will stay the same size even when you change resolutions (unless you don't want it to).

Craziness...

One would need detail specs of the PSP cpu to make those comparisons, and even then they wouldn't be very easy to come up with.

I did it not with NT but with 3.11 using DOS 7.11

and for those that don't know DOS 7.11 came with win 98 and the highest 3.11 supports without hacking is dos 6.22

Well, maybe it can't handle NTFS. Try uning 95, as it uses FAT like Windows 3.x ^^
