I need a how to on getting movies off of the new motorola comcast dvr
onto a usb memory stick or your pc

If you can connect them through ethernet cable, you can transfer the files. I dont have any experiance with DVRs and am currently taking a networking class.

I dont think the usb port would be useful. It would at best let you transfer up to 420MB/s (but has anyone gotten it over 100?), and on top of that your DVR has to support it.

grr, well, I got to say that the dvr isn't mine infact it's in oragon with ym isster, becuase her and her boyfirend have the service, I was thinking, becuase there so low tech, if there as some way to do it with usb, not the smart card

ok, geebs since you don't own one stop posting, anyway can anyone help me, I just need to know if theres a way to get some shows onto a usb memory stick or off of the dvr onto a pc, I don't care if it's slow, I don't own the system and my sister has a sub cable rpobly, so it doens't matter, I just want to know if it can be done

In all likelihood, the DVR uses an internal hard drive. In all likelihood, that hard drive is in no way different then a hard drive found in an everyday PC. If the hard drive is formated with any kind of FAT or NTFS, then getting to the movies is as easy as taking the DVR apart and temporarily plugging the hard drive into the PC. Then you can move the files over etc etc.

If this ( http://www.pvrblog.com/pvr/2005/01/extracting_hd_v.html ) works for MACS, than in all likelihood you should be able to get it working for Windows as well.
