help! PSU exploded!

Post by totokan »

Ok, this ain't right. After buying my second power supply (supposedly the one that should work), checking everthing, plugging it in and turning it on, the tech support guy said short the power switch & ground pins. Before I even get to it, my 'ebay-new' power supply suddenly sparks and starts smoking! Now, i need another one, and my parents won't let me get another one online! I need a PSU with at least 400W, and i need the -12V to have 1A on it. Anyone have any ideas where to get one? At staples, the 400W had -12V and .3A on it. the other two i have are (300W, -12V .8A) and (400W -12V .8A). As usual, if i'm not making any sense, i'll be glad to post pics.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

and what are you using it for?
If you've fried 2 PSUs, have you checked for shorts on what you're trying to power?

1)I'm using it for a pc with a 2.66 ghz 775-land 533Mhz fsb Intel pentium 4

2) only the 3rd one (the newest) fried. the others just didn't have enough power to work the computer. The guy at tech support sez that you need a 1A, -12V rating on the one part.
