It's not that hard anymore. Give Knoppix a whirl. Most embedded video chips are even 3D-accelerated out of the box with Linux.

That is crazy, you have to strip it down to get it to that size! DSL fits in 50MB and comes with most stuff you'd need!

tom61, did I say 4GB? I thought I said 1.5GB Either way, the cheapest form of flash storage is the Jumbodrive from Rosewill. The 1.5GB version is only $45, and only $79 for 3GB. Last time I checked, your board was a t least 5.75" x 8", while Mini-ITX is 6.7" x 6.7", so how is my board twice the size of yours? Have you actually dumped your first attempt in favor of getting a 3.5" board, or is all of that just speculation?

I must of been thinking of my SGS board instead of my EBX formfactor board in size. Moving to a 3.5" board is just kind of dreaming right now (other than the SGS board, which is rather lacking).

Ahh, playing NEW games is not on my agenda, but retro gaming has always been formost

Many embedded chipsets will perform sufficiently well to run Q3A games, and Unreal Tournament. Besides that, I will run bunches and bunches of roms. I basically want to make the portable to beat and replace all other portables

Linux sure does look aluring, but I question whether it will serve my retro gaming purposes (goes to UT and Q3A websites to scrounge around)

Once I finish my 3 projects, and get some cash together, I was looking into doing one of these projects as well with a touch screen and attach a controller to it for the simple games (snes perhaps???).

UT is bit of pain to install, as it came out before Linux really caught on. If you find instructions, it's not all that difficult, just a pain as you have to download stuff seperately. UT2K4 was easy to install using the script file on the DVD.

Now I miss player multi-player UT2K4, since I can't play on this god-aweful university apartment internet. I'm on a 10Mbit hub, and I'm guessing all 120 rooms are on the same.

I don't remember what it takes to install Q3 under Linux. There should be some interesting stuff out there for Q3 under Linux poping up now, as the source for the engine was released not long ago.

I'm using Gentoo, which has a package management system that can handle installing commercial games, so I've not had to manually install the older games recently. Unfortunately, Gentoo isn't very newbie friendly when it comes to installation, nor is it very friendly to a system with limited CPU, as it compiles everything you install from source(barring comercial apps and games).

Some day I plan on doing a PC in an attache case, wouldnt bother with an internal powersupply, but would have a mini-ITX PSU with the cord plug-in jack coming out the back.

It seems my mistrust of newb eBay buyers in 3rd world countries has some basis in fact (at least a little bit!!!). I'm still waiting for an email and/or payment from a guy in Argentina who bought a laptop from me. I cannot afford to buy the motherboard for my PCp until I get that money.

Now it seems that I will have to relist the laptop on eBay and wait another 7 days for someone to grab it- than wait even longer for them to get around to paying for it ~_~

For the sake of simplicity, I will stick with stripped-down Win98 for this iteration of the PCp (I hope to build a smaller version a few months or a year from now).

guess what? my name is CEnnar and i love the crack umm yeah crack@!!!1 cocaine. also if any one knows what happend to that old link to that car audio site that sells Nanos they where like 450$ and 12cmx12x3 imagine adding 3 more cm to the depth then adding like 12 more HDD and Battry it has a self contained PSU on the mobo you can just snap on or off and its DC-DC its freaking great!!! man if any one has that link i'll buy one and i'll tell you how it gos, i so have a Case inmind (a spare one from my M64 trials) yeah music and ipod concetivity games and mroe all in like the size of almost a gamegear. i'd put it in my back pack

Yeah, it seems that Nano-ITX aren't trully commercially available yet. Hopefully they won't ne TOO outragously expensive when they are finally released. I'd pay 250 dollars for one, but not 300-400

Ok, I just recieved my Epia TC10000, 12GB USB laptop hard drive, and a 128MB PC2100 SO-DIMM. I already have a cd-rom drive, obviously, and I will be using my main monitor to set everything up. By this weekend, I will buy the 7808's needed to power the PSone screen. Pics to come soon!
