Shoud we have a fourm for cases?

We have a fourm for screen hacking, but we don't have a forum for case making, an almost vital part of portabalizing. Without a case, a portable is nothing but a bunch of circuit boards,wires, switches, a screen and batteries all jumbled together in a big mess! Right now, the only place for the case ideas is here in fourm 42, but maybe, if not just for cases, there should be a misc. hacking fourm for other things, like next-gen, computers, cases, c64's, amigas, mac II's and other random hackings You could also mesh the Dreamcast and N64 threads into it, making it a more 'general' hacking thread for lesser-hacked fourms/consoles. Give your ideas/opinions, too.

how about we stop trying to change the forums
we dont need a case section because there isnt mucch to discuss on cases that it needs its own section
but thats just me

Alright cases are tied more into the type of portable your making so much that its a little silly to have a whole forum for it. Make a thread or two about your projects progress and if you have questions about the type of case you should go with or are choosing then ask there. Besides cases are very singular to the system. You cant use the same case that works for a NES with a PSp or the Dreamcast with the GCp.

yeah you can use the same screen or all kinds of portabes, but cases are not as complicated as screens, and dont need a forum

I don't really see the harm in having a case forum. Plus, a lot of case making knowledge/technique is universal.

I'd vote yes... you know, if this were a democracy or something.

Look you want a comprimise we can have a tourtorial made and hosted on doomportables. Its not a big thing. You really have a type of case that you're interested in and want to discuss, do it here. Or hell do it in the SNES forum, it was the orginal "general topic forum".

But we dont have a big enough demand for a case forum. We have a bigger demand for a general hacking/modding forum. And no I think until the threads about general hacking/modding get to be a problem (like with sales thread) we have no reason to make a seperate forum for it.

I think a General case forum would be pretty nifty. What I would like to see is a misc projects area, for silly stuff like mouse mods, foot dremeling, etc.

Well for minor mods like that, couldn't we make a forum on Doomportables? (because they hae nothing to do with videogames for the most part)

POD has a forum. it links to the old benheck forum so it needs to be updated. BTW, i changed my mind; it would be nice to have a general case/electronic/misc forum

Yeah, cases aren't universal, but the techniques used to make them are. Take Ben's book for example, the first type is the bent aluminum strips and engraving plastic, the second is CNC-cut. Then, there's vacuum forming (a whole subject on its own), frankensteining (which I'm not a big fan of but still can require some interestingâ€¦things). There was a case made of bondo I once saw, and someone even carved one once (something like that, it was made of wood for sure though). Heck, they're at least as complex as screens in these senses, so why don't we have one?

Also, an electronics forum would be pretty good, it would allow for some discussion of non-portable electronics here.
