Just Curious..
What is everyone's preference in componets for making a NES portable?
Do you prefer the actual NES MB or Famiclone/PP/SP Insides?
Does one work better than the other..?? different power needs?
I have a really good idea for a portable but I'm trying to decide if it better to go small and light or big with lots of room for batteries..
Inside your portable? Poll.. Kinda..

hey, I was tracking ur portable since it started.. i have to say, I love ur idea about the usb plugin.. I'm an IT student in college and I'm by a pc all day with about 2 hours break daily.. the usb power would make an awesome battery saver during that time..
just curious.. are there any specific games that dont work with it.. any classics such as Loz, metroid, MM3 or SMB3 *not* work on it? I've got a pretty big list of NES games and I'd prefer to know if they work before hand.. it just ones that use specific mappers, I think, isnt it?

It should have 100% compatibility. I bet it's your cartridge.
I prefer NOAC's because,
1) They cost only $30. ~$10 on ebay sometimes.
2) NOAC has 76+ built in games. NES has 0.
3) Power draw is MUCH smaller, so play time is much longer than a NES.
4) Size does matter. You cna get more inventive with your case with such a small board.
5) The cartridge connector from a Family Converter is much better than a normal NES connector. It never locks up and it grips the cart in place very firmly. You don't even have to blow on the cart before you put it in!!!
DOWNSIDES: Only problem with NOAC's is that they usually have cruddy video. That could be fixed but I don't know how. Also, I heard that the sound is not as good as NES. I can't notice anything different when playing a cartridge.

I do want to make an SNES cause I could play FF6 and CT for days but nope, NES.. its like almost right on for proportions..
9"L x 5 1/2"W x 2 1/8"D
as long as i can get that stupid video box and expansion slot off, i will, also I need to use the hip gear screen for something cause all my later projects will use only one screen..
ive never desoldered anything before.. so its taking some practice.. i took a break from it cause of a nasty burn I got while trying to run for the telephone.. (note to self: invest in cordless)
If the NOAC works with 4 batteries to run.. what would the big one and a hip gear screen need for acouple hours power.. remember that I have a lot of room..
ive considered packing a Li battery into the old GB power pack to match it.. good idea or will it not be enough?
