My point still stands. You haven't innovated anything, you've just created a more powerfull handheld. Big whoop.Lucretius wrote:And the GBA mario remakes were? Yeah sure, if they lose money. But they havent even begun to lose money yet. Hell, the worst thats happened is that they've failed to meet their projection in one quarter (barely). That doesn't mean it'll be chapter 11 time soon. They have a long way to go before they will be in danger of dying. That sales graph has been misused time and time again. One thing you need to consider is that Nintendo's sales have still gone down and when they hit zero, it won't make a damn difference how much their excrement costs. It's all bye bye, then...MajorLag wrote: Oh yeah. They're doing a lot of suffering. I mean, for the last year they've been losing money like crazy! Oh.. no wait..:
Considering that the people who've been complaining have been few, it doesn't mean anything. Nintendo remakes classics for one reason: people will buy them. If people weren't buying them, they'd stop remaking them. Besides, the new stuff they do is spectacular, and their old stuff was spectacular too. No excrement there.Oh really, so the fact that we've all been complaining about the Remakes, MP's, and MSports means what to you? excrement games are excrement games. You can't fight that..MajorLag wrote:Nintendo isn't making excrement games. Not by a longshot.Think about it. What did atari do? No, you haven't. You've basically stated "Nintendo will die because I don't like them anymore". The fact of the matter is that Nintendo is making profit. Hell, gamecube sales were less then spectacular and they still made a profit. There are people out there who are buying what Nintendo is selling. There is a market for the NR, all one has to do is look at how many people are posting that they are excited about the possibilities of the new controller (and there are a lot more of us then hate filled anti-N fanboys spouting doom and gloom on forums far and wide). But hey, why argue about it? In a few years, I'll just dig this post up and show you how wrong you were, or you'll do the same to me (highly doubtful). Now let me sum up:MajorLag wrote: Let me sum this up:

Nintendo made a very wise choice with the GC. They made it cheap. Cheap to make, cheap to sell. But when the time comes and the number sold of one console or another (I'm sure more are on the way) really does hit 11, It won't matter if each one is sold at 200 dolars, they won't satnd a chance. Bussiness smarts means not having to cover your ass. So that if people don't like your games, you have more. You don't rebound with a new excrement console. I don't like the NR, and I have given valid reasons for Nintendo's posibilities for failure.

First of all: If bossess took that many hits in games with the controllers we use now, no one would play it because it would be hell on their thumbs. Ok, so that wouldn't stop some people. But still games that rediculous are pretty few. Secondly: The way the controller is used will be taken into consideration during the development of the game. At least, any developer worth their salt will. Most of the developers that aren't worth their salt stay away from Nintendo consoles anyway.benheckc wrote:I was thinking more about the Revolution controller and why it's not a good idea. The big one is FATIGUE.
Everyone is like, "wow you can swing a Zelda sword!" or "wave it around to punch someone!" Ok great. So what about those bosses who take 1000 hits to kill, or a bad guy who takes 500 punches to knock down? You're going to be FRICKING TIRED by time it's done.
Or just your wrist. Depends on how the game is coded to handle input.Instead of moving your thumb or finger to do something you'll now have to more your entire arm, or at least forearm. Sure people use TV remotes, even hold them for hours on end. But they don't USE them constantly (ok, some guys do but I digress)
Why would I need an extra controller shell when (in all probability) I can just plug a regular old traditional GC controller in and use that? Besides, how would you revolutionize the way games are played with out, you know, doing something radically different? It's true some sort of new controller would be nice since games are in 3D, movement in games is 3D but gamepads are 2D. However I don't believe something as completey off-the-wall as this is the answer. Why couldn't all this stuff be put in a REGULAR controller? Oh right, because then they couldn't sell you the CONTROLLER SHELL as extra. Nintendo makes a profit because they sell you all this extra crap on top of stuff you already bought (and endless GBA models)
Possibly. It will be interesting to see how the various developers solve these issues.Something else, physical movement is kind of arbitrary, while button pushing is not. Example: I ALWAYS leaned when dodging asteroids in the old Starfox game. But of course I was also pushing buttons. So now my leans are translated to the game? Ok fine. But I have to completely center my body to fly straight then? Lean forward to dive? There's no physical "center point" when you're moving around like that. A button/ joypad HAS a center "off" point. I can foresee a lot of "sliding" in these games.

I can understand people making a fuss and not liking it. What I can't understand is why they are so vehemently against the idea without ever even having tried it. They aren't even willing to consider the possibility that it might work.MilkMonster wrote:it looks like the only one who are making the fuss are the one who dont like it
huh...lifes funny like that
It reminds me of how many people said they'd never play Windwaker because of the cellshaded cartoon-like graphics. Those poor bastards missed out on one hell of a game because of their short sightedness.

Well what is a GCp? or a PS2p? A more powerful, more capable handheld than the current-gen handheld systems.MajorLag wrote:My point still stands. While it may be true that Nintendo had a crapload of money compared to Sony Computer Entertainment or Microsoft Games, it's still the unique franchises (and fanboy-ism) that keep people more interested in Nintendo products. And that's where one of the places the money comes from; Metroid, Mario, Link... the list goes on. If you were to license them to the other consoles, Nintendo would definitely lose some amount of their fan base.Yeah sure, if they lose money. But they havent even begun to lose money yet. Sure, Nintendo remakes classic games. But to their (probable) target market (8-13 yrs) Super Mario Bros. IS new! Think about it, some of these kids weren't even around during the Regan Administration (or even the Bush Sr. Administration for that matter) So they would probably hae never heard of the NES before. So the remakes would feel like new games to them. Clean fun for the kids, easy money for Nintendo.Considering that the people who've been complaining have been few, it doesn't mean anything. Nintendo remakes classics for one reason: people will buy them. If people weren't buying them, they'd stop remaking them. As far as the "revolutionary hardware" is concerned, peopel will most likelyt buy it simply because it's different. It may not be as practical or comfortable as a standard controller, but people will buy it just because it's different. And I agree with Ben. Hitting a virtual opponent with a virtual sword over and over will make you really damn tired. I mean why do you think the old Activision Decathelon ("Spankathon"

Ooh! Ooh! My turn to sum up!
The gamecube was, really, a decent marketing tool. It could play GBA games, connect to your GBA, and do a couple other things (of course all the equipment to do this was sold a la carte). This brought in signifigant profits for Nintendo. But as its fans grew up and the gimmickry wore off, the Gamecube lost popularity. I see it, and its sucessor, as more "toy" than "hardcore gaming platform". It might just be the name. It may be because of the capabilities and limitations of the gamecube. All I know is that Nintendo won't sway me with shiny baubles and shallow promises.(plus remakes of games generally suck *donkey*, except for SMB DX for the GBC. That game rules.) When they try to update the old ghames, they lose that quaint feel that brings back memories of R.O.B. or the Super Game Boy. I'm more interested in the power of the system, not all the shiny accessories you can buy for it. I'd rather have a more powerful 360 or PS3 than the (IMO) rather kiddie Rev. For one thing, they'll show their age more slowly so the companies will be less likely to make a new one very quickly.
the only way I'd buy a Revolution is if I suddenly had a ton of expendable income and if they'd make a new Duck Hunt game. (which they won't because it's"too violent" or some of that other BS)
*Hugs PSX, PS2, Genesis, GBC, NES, and GBA*

And there isn't any system, that I see anyways, that has as many exclusive franchises as Nintendo:
Nintendo
----------
Mario (and all spinoffs including Tennis, Wario Land, Mario Party, and Kart)
Zelda
Metroid
Star Fox
Banjo-Kazooie
Sony
------
Jak and Daxter
(don't tell me Spyro and Crash. Ever since Universal has had exclusive rights they've been released on practically every current system)
Microsoft Consoles
---------------------
Halo (1 and 2)
You bought an Xbox because of Halo, huh? Well people will buy a Reolutiuon because of Mario Party 93287542386 and Zelda: Link goes Shopping, and Mario Kart: Crash and Burn. (not real titles) I see it as a vicious cycle:
Code: Select all
The NINTENDO Cycle

Nicely said, bico!
Major, you really didn't read, did you? I like nintendo. The only non-nintendo BG related item I have is Halo for PC. All I know is that they are loosing popularity. And fast. I frequent the N-Sider forums (much to my own shagrin) and have seen quite a few fan-boys turn off. After the GBM, the realization that the GC does suck, and the Rev controller, they have come to one conclusion or another that Nintendo is making a few too many mistakes and few too many, simply put, good products.
Nintendo is the king of pricing. That's been the case since the game boy pitted itself against the lynx, and won. I am simply stating that for obvious reasons, it won't work forever. If they keep making half-assed consoles and too few games to support them, they won't sell well.
I keep bringing up Atari for a reason. They weren't called the king of VGs for nothing. They had a monopoly on the economy in the 70s that died in '83. That's were NIntnedo grew. And like the life of a star, I can see Nintendo (who is following Atari in an almost religious way) dieing away in a peeflurp of a nova. I do wonder who will take its place...

there are a few huge differences between Nintendo and Atari. One of Atari's biggest problems is that it treated its game programmers (who, at the time, were also designers, sound effects guys, and usually artists too) like crap (this is post Nolan, BTW). The guys who made the games that made Atari most of its money went off to form Activision and IMagic. Considering the weatlth of creativity that comes out of Nintendo, I have to guess that they treat they're developers a lot better.Lucretius wrote: I keep bringing up Atari for a reason. It is way, way, WAY too early to be forcasting the big N's demise.

On annother note. Yes, Nintendo will probably loose a few gamers this year because of their radical new step, but don't forget that part of the reason they made the controller like they did was to open new markets. Currently it is very hard for a non-gamer over 15 to get into gaming. Ever tried getting your parents to play something that requires ten buttons and 2 analog sticks? Its too much. The same goes for young children I suppose.
