My new toy, an ancient pachinko machine

Post by Reaperman@home »

I was thrilled when I found her at a thrift store for $13. It's a vintage 60's Dai-Ichi Pachinko machine converted for American home use. No, it's not 'worth anything'--the balls are actually more valuable than the unit. But it's good enough for me.

She's a manual fire unit, loads of fun. All she needs are a couple light bulbs (or LED conversion) and a power supply. Of course to do either, I have to figure out what voltage it needs. From the wiring and size of the electronics I'd say 6-12v, and it probably doesn't care which. Without power I'm stuck to playing without lights or payouts. This is why the bottom catcher is looks halfway open--it's jammed with way too many balls.

I always wanted one of these, but I'd previously been looking at the modern, motorized ones with LCD screens and mini-games (about $200). But this will more than get me by until I get a proper game room.

...just another noisy reason for the cat to hate me...

Looks cool in a "what is this?" kind of way.

great!
If you don't mind taking a couple seconds with your multimeter; what type of power does it take, what voltage, and which pins are which?

It's probably safe for me to assume that the green (middle one) is ground. Of course there's still the red and blue one...

I've actually had a house guest the last few days and have been unable to do much aside from walk past and fire the occasional ball into it.

well this is like a 2 year drag up, but what the heck.

I was finally browsing around for a transformer for my old pachinko machine when I came across pachislo.com. yes there are other retailers for pachinko/pachislo stuff, but these guys have insanely low US shipping ($1), so I thought I'd share the link to some more modern machines. I'm already putting together my xmas list. They are actually pretty reasonably priced too. And technology certainly has come a long ways--3d graphics, large LCD's, really cool transparent 'el vision' screens. you know you want one too.

the pachislo machines start at $130 shipped, $150 for the el vision unit, or $239 for gamera with its 3d graphics and 20" LCD
unfortunately because of my current state of residence I can't buy a pachislo, but I guess I could always have it reshipped from relatives out of state. ...maybe I meant to say: "but that would be 'smuggling' which is wrong." (actually, transporting a slot machine-like device over state lines may even be felony wrong)

otherwise the pachinkos aren't bad either. starting at $200 for robocop or $300 for star wars

just dreaming. of course they do sell the transformer I need for $16 shipped so maybe I should take baby steps and actually play with what I have for once...

well, I found a video of that $130 (shipped) street fighter 2 pachislo machine.
It's incredibly cool for the least expensive machine. I totally want one now, but again--I live in one of the states they won't ship to.
