Anyone have theories on the forum down problems?

Post by benheck »

The site bandwidth is normal, visitor numbers are normal. Evil scripts have been suggested, as well as iPowerweb (the host) having problems.

It seems to work at the start of the hour, perhaps before the limit is reached?

Wondering what everyone makes of this... I know squat about PHP so I'm lost. Though I hear this forum software is inefficient (being free) and that alone drives up the "max questions" (aka queries I assume)

There is a max. of 50,000 queries to the database per hour. Each phpBB page uses 5-20 queries which limits the site to less than 10,000 hits per hour. I talked to IPowerWeb, and they said that they won't increase the amount of queries alowed per hour. Your server doesn't seem to allow external database connections, so I doubt it has anything to do with someone's malicious action.

You can have 50,000 :P It's the mysql standard limit for all shared servers. Most hosts refuse to raise it unless you're on a dedicated server.
