Broken Gamecube?

Post by Beware of Guard Metroid »

I got my gamecube the day it came out. A little more than a year later, it stopped working. I just threw it in a corner and bought a new one, but I was thinking I could use it to make a portable. When I put a game in and turn it on, it goes to the gamecube menu and it says that there isn't a gamecube disc. When I open the gamecube the disk isn't spinning. Can someone tell me what's wrong with it and if it can be fixed? If it can't, what parts can be used for a PS2 or SNES portable? Any info would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Well you could buy a spare off of ebay or you could try cleaning the disk reader.

It can be fixed if you send it to me so I can keep it
On 2nd thought, I only need 1 part from a gamecube to fix mine, and I'm too cheap to buy it anyways :P

To open the gamecube, do I need the tri-wing screw or the other type of screws. Where can I get a screwdriver to open my gamecube for cheap?

I tried that, but I still get the same message and the disc still doesn't spin. Either way, I'm going to try to take it apart and make it portable if I can get it fixed.

Edit: How much would shipping to Waltham, Massachusetts zip code: 02451, cost for the screwdriver?

That's what I plan on trying first and if that doesn't work I'll get a new one.

You will need some sort of GameBit screwdriver for the GameCube, but you don't have to buy one, taking a cheap (or really old) flathead screwdriver and filing a slot in it will make it fit around the screws in 2 notches.

Does the disk spin at all? You should hear it if you put your ear next to the thing. If it doesnt spin at all, then its not a dirty lense, its its drive motor or something equally messy.

Sounds like the disc lid sensor is shot.
