PSX Controller TV Remote

Turn a Sony brand PSX pad (no analog stick kind) into a TV remote that will work and function normally (or abnormally depending how good it turns out). It must look mostly stock (I feel like Jesse James!), things like a few extra buttons poking out or a battery stuck on are okay. Just so long as it still looks like a normal controller.

Use this week to gather the parts and think of a design idea. Don't start building until this friday (this will take a while so we need more than just a week)

Sunday at 6:00 PM (this will depend on where you live) you must have submitted your controller for voting (can we do a poll?). The one with the most votes wins, and gets...Um a Mcbirthday (can you do that Luc?) or something. Oh yeah, the first one done gets the Super-Speedy-Award (which I have ready)

So far I have half the parts, but I won't start building until friday. Anybody want to do it?

You can get PSX controllers at Electronics Boutique for $2, and universal remotes anywhere for cheap (Thrift stores have them for $1)

Here is how I am planning on using the buttons:

L1= Rewind
R1= Fast Foward
L2= Stop
R2= Play

UP= Channel up
DOWN= Channel down
LEFT= Volume down
RIGHT= volume up

Triangle= DVD/AUX select
Square= TV select
Circle= VCR select
X= TV/VCR button (not 100% sure what it does...)

Select= Mute
Start= Power

On the bottom of the controller I will have a small PCB with a bunch of small tac switches poking out of the plastic case. These will be the less used buttons like the code button, enter button, and all the number buttons.

It's gonna be tricky, but only cause there is a lot of wiring involved. Reminds me of my Game Pro in the altoids case.

If I were to do it, I'd use one of the original controllers, BUT put an analouge stick on the right d-pad (for flavor).

Seriously, it's mostly something that is just for fun. No prizes or anything, just bragging rights (and how can you go wrong there? )

Yeah I always hated Sony's version of the DPad.
