CNC PSone case by Hand

Yes, that's right. I want to make the CNC PSoneP case by hand, but with a few modifications to make the intec screen fit. (which will probably just be the round screen part, that would have to be custom-built.) I don't have a CNC router, but I do have quite a bit of patience when it comes to building stuff, plus the experience with a jigsaw and other tools. And since I'm only using a digital game pad for size and simplicity, there will be no analog sticks.(I don't like 'em anyways )

However I don't have a lot of patience with designing cases, I've thrown out about 40 designs so far, so i just decided to rip off an existing design. Sorry, Ben. ):

Here's the parts I have for the case:

-sheets of plastic (roughly 14 by 24 inches, 1/8" thick, I think it's ABS, textured, probably very similar to the stuff Ben uses on the CNC cases)

-Aluminum, asstd. thicknesses and widths

Tools I have access to:

-Dial caliper

-jigsaw (kind of like the band saw seen in the "Making of VCSP rev.6" video)

-Sawzall (can you say "overkill"? )

-Drill with asstd. bits (wood bits, carbide, one of those ones that cuts in all directions...)

-Vice (not from Miami)

-Asceteline torch (possibly to bend plastic for the sides instead of aluminum?)

-Krazy Glue (I heart Crazy Glue)

-Asstd. files (round, square, half-round, triangular, flat...)

-Metal Lathe

Questions:

1. Is there any chain store (or type of store) that would carry the .25" plastic for the sides and screen riser? (I'd like to avoid buying online, please. Parents, you know?)

2. Am I crazy to think I could do this? I think I could, I've made some fairly complex stuff before...

3. Does this sound possible at all?

Question #1: Some stores sell acrylic in various depths. Did you try Lowes or Menards yet?

You have an oxy-acetyline torch? Damn, what do you use it for anyway?

Well under Lowes.com they list 1/4" thick acrylic sheets in the parts list for the <a href="http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=h ... tml">Grill Buddy</a>, but I can't find them listed in the online catalog.

I'd assume they'd carry it, because they wouldn't want you to go to Home Depot for parts for their project!

Well I think it's a torch that my grandfather has, but it might be a welder. I think I'm thinking of a propane torch, which is used for plumbing work. Sorry.

I think a propane torch would work, just keep it out of the deep blue, unless you like blackened portables.

Has anyone seen the 1/4" plastic around at Lowes before? Or should I use a lightweight wood or something? (I might be able to get some scraps from the plywood-cutting machine for cheap...)
