Famous music in videogames...

A friend and I were talking about the few games we have that were inspired or included famous music or musicians.

Here's what we could remember:
Sega Genesis: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
Sega Genesis: Crue Pinball (Motley Crue)
Super Nintendo: Rock N Roll racing (Black Sabbath, George Througood)
Super Nintendo: Generation X with Aerosmith
Atari 2600: Journey's Escape

Can anyone remember any others?

Super Mario Bros. tunes get remixed all the time by Nintendo. Most notably. Super Mario Sunshine. The on-ground theme is used in secret platforming levels, and the underground theme is used in the sewers.

i can only imagine waht journey sounds like on the 2600

lol sometimes nullsleep makes famous songs on the nes hardware (axel F is one )

Tempo (32X) has a bunch of famous tunes that play with each not you collect. Also, Crazy Taxi has Offspring songs n all...

and then there was vidgrid on the jagCD
it was just a slide puzzle of a music video while it was playing. but hey, it was a pack in. Come to think of it, none of the jagcd games were much better...

of course there are plenty of game soundtracks I wish they'd release on CD...or at least find a good way for me to steal. San Francisco Rush 2049 comes to mind. (it looks like they used to give away the mp3s on the midway website, but they're long gone)

I swear that TMNT (the first one) for NES ripped of a riff from Little River Band's Reminiscing. And Dr. Mario's music seemed a mishmash of stolen tunes but I can't remember which ones at the moment.

There has been a bunch of games with great soundtracks from NES all the way to modern systems (most stuff older than an NES or SMS grates after not very long as far as I'm concerned). And a bunch that just sucked. One that I always thought was excellent (especially for when it came out) was Castlevania: Sympony of the Night. Every song on that game was good and it complemented the mood of the game to a tee.

mishmash of unlicensed tunes--but try to get it out of your head. you know you remember the order they went in.

and the arcade version of pengo featured the ever popular 'popcorn'

(the file sounds better on z26 than it does when you play it on Stella.)

There was a great site, I think it was something like 8bitpeoples.com. They made all sorts of music on the GameBoy, NES, VCS, C64...

Don't forget Kevin Horton's remix of the Super Mario Land 1-1 music!

Check out this site. Lots of music sequenced into MIDI. Sometimes sounds pretty cheesy but its a super quick download. And they have the Pengo music for you popcorn lovers!

Best video game music IMO is

Legend of Mana Intro (Song of Mana)

the real version...not the crappy MIDI version or crappy piano only version. This song was near impossable to track down, whenever I downloaded it it was the piano only version...but after like a year of searching I found a copy.

THUG 2 has just about every famous band you can think of. The other tony hawk games have a lot less but still some famous ones.
