I need a data-logger

I have some projects here that I cant get done unless i get a data-logger. Unfortunateally i have been banned and black-listed from most of the schools that have em', even my own.

Anyone know of some free software that can do 8-16 channel datalogging via serial or parallel port? The key word here is FREE. I need this to be as inexpensive as possible. I know im probabbly going to have to build some kind of parallel port interface, but that shouldnt be a big deal.
