Question about tactile switches

Hi,
I've been patiently waiting for my switches to arrive in the mail. Anyway I realized that I don't even know how to use them. My question is how do I connect them (on a board) so that they become the buttons. Since there are four traces which ones will I use? Here is a picture. Also, how do you connect the grounds on the switches (on the board)? Do you just run wires across the board, or do you use blobs of solder?

Well just solder a wire, daisy-chain style to each of the ground pins and then connect it to ground for a common ground system.

I'm not sure about the tact switches, though. Sorry.

i think one pair of traces is switched on when you push the button and the other pair is on when you don't push the button but turn of when you press it. use a multimeter to find out which ones

The best way that I have found is to connect two that are kitty corner (diagonal) from each other. As for ground, bicostp is right.

you connect "or these"
when I first made something with tact switches I tied the 2 that were closest together on accident

I don't think this thread is too old yet. *Resurrection* Anyway since nobody ever goes to the PSX forum I'll post in here (its on topic at least). This is how I connected my switches. Does it matter which pair I use? Im pretty sure I have a few of each (pair of connections) and none of the buttons (analog, select, start, d-pad, shoulders included) work.

EDIT: Should the button complete the circuit or break it when pressed? I'm guessing connect, but that would mean my buttons should work.
