Rebuilding, but not a gaming system..

Post by x24 »

Ive got 2 questions

Q1 background info:
The other night my gf rented a stupid chick flick movie and watched it on my dvd player.. now i think the disc was f'n warped or somethin and the pos got stuck in my system.. so i opened it up, took out that scratched crap disc that i now own :?.. whipped it and looked inside and noticed that the cable between the very small board and the disc drive looks like a hard drive cable.. (if it is.. dont make fun.. ive never seen the inside of one) so my question is..

Q1:
if i take apart my dvd player (that might have been the cause of the disc going haywire, dont know till i test on some blank cds) and replace the, maybe, broken dvd drive with a harddrive would it still load up and run MPGs thru a portable screen? kinda make it run like a really big one of these..

(hopefully linking to this pic doesnt give people 'the finger' like last time, sorry everyone btw)

Q2 Background:
Recently i decided to take my POS ANCIENT RCA 32mb Kazoo Mp3 player apart because most of the case got broke (battery door fell off, unimportant buttons stopped working/broke) .. i was going to relocate it to a very small project box from 'sourceshack' and make it run on AAs instead of AAAs but when i got home from getting the supplies i needed my cat (always causes problems on that table) knocled my remains of the player on the floor ripping out one of the battery wires.. the red one remains but the black one was ripped straight from the board..

Q2:
Does anyone have this player that would be able to take a photo or something showing me where the black wire goes.. (the replacement battery holder includes the wires i need).. but i have no idea where it goes.. i assume right beside the red one but id like to be sure..

and one small quick question.. like q1.. u think it would be very hard to replace the sd card reader in the mp3 for another data holding medium.. ive got CF cards galore or a laptop hd.. or somethin..??

Q1:
You can't hook up a harddrive to a standard DVD player, as the DVD drive uses the ATAPI protocol and the discs are formated UDF, whereas harddisks use the ATA protocol and use different formats.

Q2:
I don't have one, but the black wire should be ground. So, look for a trace that connects to virtually every part for where the wire broke off.

Small q:
Not easily. SD cards use a serial style interface and CF cards and IDE harddisks use a 40 pin parrallel interface.
