I'm gonna go random here... I got a 256 MB MP3 player on black friday last year at Best Buy. And even though its only a quarter of a gig, I can store more than enough music on it. Why does everyone think they NEED an ipod with a huge hard drive? Surely you can't stand to listen to the same old music that you listened to last week yet again. I just don't get it...

i have a one gig and 80 gigs of music, every time i plug it in to itunes. I get random music pumped in to my shuffle on a random play list.. I dont have that problem... and some one with a 60 or 20 gig would be fine, there play lists have ratings so they can chose the priority of that song compared to others in a random list of there hdd.

I don't see why I need an mp3 player. My pockets are big enough for my portable MP3/CD player, and it can hold 700 MB per disc for a $25 player, as opposed to the Shuffle, the closest it gets is 512 MB for $99. (or did they lower the price?)
Sometimes I don't even use that! I wind up using my portable tape player!
Sure it doesn't skip tracks, but I certainly don't mind using the fast forward and rewind buttons to find a song! Besides the tapes I use are only a buck apiece and they hold 90 mins or sound. And I think it plays for about 14 hours on 2 rechargeable AAs.
