I get the blue screen of death under Windows XP... UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DEVICE is the main problem, and windows will not boot up, please help, it's good I got the internet on my pc upstairs :'(

I'm guessing the hard drive is failing. How old is the PC?

it's probably the hard disk, but it could also be the HD controller. Usually controllers go all at once, but hard disks sometimes linger and partially work for a while. The lingering sounds like where you're at.
