Portabilizing Idea: VR3 MP3 FM Modulator

Post by Mortal_Elf »

Hi.

I have an idea for a portabilizing project: The VR3 MP3 FM Modulator. It's about $30 over at Wal-Mart here:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=3579125

It's an MP3 player that one plugs into a cigarette lighter, then broadcasts MP3s from an attached USB device over one of 7 preset FM frequencies. I'd really like a battery-powered version; I don't imagine it would *need* 12 volts, but really, I wouldn't need the transmitter. If it had a headphone port. . . It would be a cheap, portable MP3 player that could read from any USB mass-storage device (like a USB flash drive). I'm not familiar with a portable MP3 player that can do this; certainly, I've never heard of one that's this cheap.

The problem is, I've never really dallied with electronics; I don't even own a soldering iron. That's why I've never posted to this board (though I'm a long-time lurker). Therefore, I submit the idea to the portabilizing community at large, so I can shamelessly borrow any ideas you can come up with. *grins*

-Thanks.

hmm... combine that with a usb 2.0 hdd case and you could have a pretty cheap mp3 setup for your pc. It'd be kinda crappy though.

*grins* I just happen to have an external HDD case (USB 2.0, or course). However, there's still the problem of power, and sound-output. I'd rather not have to use a dario to pick it up. Maybe make the transmitter switchable, to save on battery power? In any event, I think direct audio output would be a definite improvement.

-Thanks.

Just thinking about FM transmitters gives me a great idea. Hmm, I wonder if Small Dog still has that $50 deal…

well, You have to be able to get straight audio out of it somehow, even if you have to open it up.
