Whats the use of a De-Solder iron?

Cant you just take a Solder Iron and Heat the Metal up and then pull the wire out?

ya but on the desolder acually sucks up the solder if your soldering like a point on a borad

Don't get an iron, Radio Shack has a vacum pump and coper braid for like $5 or less. And yes you can just pull the bugger out, thats what I did with wires, but with leads like the AV jack in my PS with those masive ground plugs needed to have the solder sucked away bit by bit. Seriously it took me like 2 hrs of constant soldering to get the bugger off.

also, I'm sure we have all dripped solder on a motherboard, or at least some of us have. A desoldering bulb helps a lot

that only works for wires. you need to get rid of the solder for surface mount stuff

Desoldering braid can rip off traces though. A desoldering iron is the safest and best way to remove solder. Not braid or a bulb. Trust me, I've tried all of them.

[hijack]even California can't prove it, it's just 'known to them'. Nobody can prove causation of cancer, but make sure you waste some more time with cancer walks, the medical industry wants to waste some more of your money[/hijack]
