If I don't do the LED mod...

For my SNESP w/ PS1 screen, I dont think I want to do the LED mod (I'm lazy and poor).

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the LED mod??

also, if i decide to do it afterall, where can I get the parts??

And to answer your question (even though I should make you search! ),

Advantages: less power used than cathode tube, appears visible when screen is taken in a picture (digital camera), looks just as great when using 6 LEDs, you won't shock (in this case, kill) yourself when working inside the screen because the cathode tube inverter is gone

Disadvantages: you have to do the mod (which is kinda hard if you don't have a good flat surface and a sharp knife), LEDs and resistors cost about $11, you can break your screen in the process

All things considered, go with the LED mod, you'll be happier to lose a screen or two in the process than end up dead (or with a portable that runs for 5 minutes).

advantages: much longer battery life. if you use 6 LEDs it looks as good as the original back light

disadvantages: if you only use 3 LEDs, it won't look as good. brightness mod hurts the contrast. you might kill it if you mess up

i havn't done it yet but those are what i've heard about it. you can probably get most of the parts from digikey
