NES controller port= dead?

Post by bioniclebert »

I was just loading up my NES, and For some reason, my controller would not do anything. I tried loading up SMB, and I was unable to start the game. I plugged in my LED modded controller and it did not light up.

So I opened it up, and to my suprise nothing was wrong. nothing was disconnected or anything. I even switched the P1 and P2 connectors to see if one of them worked, and niether did. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and If I should solder a controller permanently to the board.

I had a similar problem with my SNES, except it was the other way around, it was the controllers fault, so i just pitched it. I don't even know why I posted that, it really doesn't help you at all, the only thing i could think of(if you would go as far as soldering controllers right to the NES) is to open up the controller slot on the NES and see if anything has come lose in there.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

The wires from the port to the NES are held on with small metal clamp-like things, so that would be a good idea to check. If you have a multi-meter use it to check for continuity.

I still cannot figure out why it does not work. I added in new connectors from another old NES, and nothing. I was thinking to solder the controller to the baord, But I dont think that would make a difference as the connectors work fine...
