its really funny. as i finish download google talk, my mom comes in and goes "look what i found in the newspaper" sure enough, an article about google talk

Google desktop search doesn't bypass any security that isn't already not there.... er...

What I mean is that it only finds things that you have permission to find. In other words, any aparent security issues are really with the OS, not GDS.

Also it should be noted that you don't need to use Google's application to participate in the network, since it is based on the Jabber protocol.

Well some kid installed it on a Win XP SP2 PC at school, and he was able to get into files on the teachers' Admin accounts from a normal User account...

But he might have figured out the password. I don't know. All I know is that he got banned from using computers at the school for the next 2 years.

(He was doing stuff like installing ROMS onto the computer, installing programs, downloading p0rn, loading it with crudware and viruses... So I used the hosts file to redirect all of the websites he went to for that to the official Barney website.

Most of the people I know have gmail, so it would work fine for me.

If Google Talk works behind a firewall I might give it a shot.

I think we should use it as a replacement for the existing irc chat system. There's a ton of viruses that go through IRC and AIM, but Google's user agreement is more restrictive than AIM's, so malicious content isn't as much of a problem. (Plus you have to invite people to your list, so you know all the people you communicate with)
