adjustable regulator question

yeah, volts are forced through, no matter what the load needs. You cannot lower or raise the voltage by plugging it in (with the exception of regulators and resistors inside) Current, however, can fluctuate based on the needs of the system.

you put 7.5V across a 3.3V line and it still works?! Damn, i agree, how the hell do people keep frying their N64s! I did such a butcher job to my Jumper/Expansion pak connector. Tthe Expantion pak is dead though, I need to buy a new one, or build a jumper pak, and that wasnt my fault, the pak was dead before I f-ed with it.

A week ago I went to the shack and bought 2.2k and 1k resistors, thinking those were the ones you mentioned above. I did not think to double check the numbers before purchasing them.
Had a friend come over, and we wired up the LM317 with those (wrong) resistors. Checked the voltage output- it was around 4.4V. Crap, I thought.
We unsoldered our wires for the AV port today, and stuck the connector back in. Next we hooked up the 64 to the TV using our regulator and 10 AA's wired in two parallel sets of 5.
Not only did it NOT fry itself, but it TURNED ON.
AND IT WAS PLAYABLE!
Unbelievable. N64 running on 7.5V going to the 12V in, and 4.4V going to the 3.3V in.
