My modular idea (it's not some silly spam, really)

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

My modular idea (it's not some silly spam, really)

Hi,
I'm not trying to spam but I think I have a good idea here. No, its not buying a controller for a psone, and a battery. I got this idea when I saw Bionicleberts NESP. In case you haven't read that thread (and why haven't you) here is what I said.
Cool, are you really putting a screen in the cartridge? Thats a neat idea for a modular design. In theory couldn't you use a cartridge slot for a screen (hacked up into say 10 pins and well I guess you would have to make your own pcb or hack up an old game cartridge to connect to it)? By connecting the traces at the same spots in each connector. You would only be using about 5 or 6 of the cartridge pins but if it works it would make a neat way to connect a screen to each diffrent portable you make. Just don't blow into the screen, or put it in backwards.
Anyway I drew up a diagram of what it would look like if actually done. What do you think? Can it be done? I might try this someday.

I know a hip gear won't fit in an SNES cart. Not yet at least.

Sweet, now will a PSone screen fit in a NES cart? This could be used to our advantage, one screen, many portables…

Sounds like it would work. I was thinlking of doing something similar on my psone. Since I'm adding a SPDT switch to select weather to power the whole system or just the screen, I could add an expansion port to add on, say, a GOAC or a NOAC cartridge, which would use the existing controller and screen.

*Claps* Genius, to simply remove the screen and connect it to a television (while extending battery life considerably). I might have to try this. I was thinking about which snes game I would have to sacrifice to try this and I concluded that it should either be A.) The worst game ever: A Barbie, one of those horrible fighting games or B.) Or it could be the most "OMFG Y DID U WREUIN TAHT KART U NOOB !!!!!11!!1one!!!!11" best game ever: like Super Metriod or Zelda: A Link to the Past. I did think of a third option, which is vacummforming a cartridge so I can try over and over, but it wouldn't fit as well and I would still need to get the contacts somehow. Now you don't have to live with the pain of not know what your portable could be like landscape/portrait because you can just build another one and plug in your screen!

I just added a 15 Pin HD-15 (PC Monotor Port) jack on the base of my screen. I have enough pins for power, audio in, video in, and RGB. Its also got the screw-on bolts that keep it attached to whatever...

How about this: use one of the crap carts that nobody cares about, and replace the label with a homemade copy of the Super Metroid label. The best of both hacks!
