I need a HDD Imaging app.

Post by Foxx373 »

Ive been looking for a program that I can use to make a disc image of my whole HDD. I need it to make bootable CD or DVDs that will do a "dd" to the drive. Im sick of having to install my OS and all my apps over and over. I would much rather just make an image of the post install of everything. Sitting here and waiting for the damn Win OS to install is getting very tedious!

Ive tried Norton Ghost, it doesnt make Bootable discs. There is an app ive seen used calld Power Quest Image Magic, but Power Quest doesnt have it anymore.

Any suggestions?

Does UltraISO copy it bit by bit AND make it bootable? Same for PQ DriveImage?

EDIT: PowerQuest and Symmantic merged. PQ Drive Image doesnt exist anymore (well... they dont let you get an offical copy). Ill have to hunt down an old version i guess.

Edit: Now i remember UltraISO... it doesnt have anything to do with backing up your HDD, It just converted between different Dic Image formats.

Norton ghost has its own os on the discs so you can put it into a blank hard drive and it wil make it exactly like it was before.

Maxtor has a program called One Touch. I havent tried it out as my Windows drive desided to have a stroke, and when I tried to do it gave me a BS reason. The bad thing is that its only avalible with a Maxtor external HDD.

Just thought it'd be somting thing to look at.

You could always play solitare while windows is installing... Press shirt+F10, that brings up a command prompt. Then type sol or sol.exe and you can play solitare. :) You could also play minesweaper by typing winmine instead of sol.
