Newbie with Newbie Questions

Hello there, im a 3d artist by trade but im looking at getting more into the Hard Ware side of things, but sadly i don't know where to start. If possible, could some advice be given, i take it is worth buying the book from here, but could someone link me to something useful. I have close to no knowledge, so go easy. Thanks.

There is also a lot of stuff that can't be found in the book, so if you have a question about building a portable, ask it here. Someone should be able to help you.

Ok, thanks all. Well, here is a question before i buy the book, is it possible to make XBox portable? As im looking at converting my friends.

hell no you honestly are not asking that have you looked at one of those things they are huge

i guess you could be the first but it is almost impossible to make a real portable out of one of those

The board is much much too complicated to cut down, as opposed to the Atari VCS board which is quite simple.

You would need to have batteries that hold so much power that it would make Doc Brown's mind boggle, and a huge case. Really the only portable way to power an Xbox would be to use a car and a power inverter, or a car battery, something along those lines.

Since you're just starting, something like that would probably be far too daunting of a task to complete. Try something like a Radica Genesis or a NOAC portable forst. They're simple ecause they can run for a long time off of AA batteries, and you don't necessarily have to include a cartridge slot.

Just read the forum for a while and you'll get a good idea of which system you would be able to build.

if you think you can portablize an XBOX, go for it but don't expect long battery life and it'll be really big. it's possible but hard and it would be really cool if you did

Best way to portabilize the Xbox is to make it into a briefcase, that way you have room for all the stuff needed to run it, like a nice big LCD and a lot of batteries.

a briefcase isn't a real portable. it's possible to make it handheld, it'll just be a bit bigger than all the others

Nah, a briefcase is a portable, but not a handheld. It's probably easier and would end up a better portable (larger screen, longer time on batteries, good heat distribution, etc).

thats what i doing
i just have ot finish up my case
its prtty easy u have to connect like 5 wires and its done
