Dedicated VCD Player

I want to make my own VCD Player using a computer, to avoid Boot-up Time is a there a Real Time DOS VCD Player that will play VCD's as soon as I boot my computer up into DOS, since I don't want to spend much money... and would like a VCD player.

I don't think so, but you have 2 other options: buy a cheapo Apex DVD player for $20, they should play VCDs, or get a Windows CE machine and find a VCD player for that (you could use VLC?).

PS2 and Xbox have media players on them, if you got them modded i can give u more info. Are u trying to play VCD, or DiVx? Most people use the 2 terms interchangeably now, but in reality, they are completely different.

If you break down and have to use a computer, you can make a MythTV box. Google KnoppMyth. Or just use a copy of Windows Media Center.

It has three different versiona. eMovix is a micro sized kernel that comes with no gui or extras just the drivers and mplayer to run your media. Movix is a step up with added fuctions to it. Movix2(squared) offers a gui and more extras then just Movix.

Now to clearify they are linux, but have been set up so they can be used by people with little or no experiance with linux. They have documentation on the left of the site to explain any question you might have, and I know that include how to make embedded.

Also Mplayer comes packaged with most all codecs for reading media files. Mpeg is standard so you can read VCDs.
