Pc in a Keyboard? How will i power it?

Post by Sweebez »

http://www.cybernetman.com/
The entire pc, minus the monitor, fits in the keyboard...
My question is How do i power something like that for a significant time period.
It would have to power the computer(not the monitor) for at least 3-4 hours.

Any suggestions on wiring/battery selection?

Sweebez

P.S. I know its not a ps2, xbox, or gc, but theres no section for it...

P.P.S. If anyone has a working Xebian(xbox linux) disk available, i need it badly.
seems my xbox hates my choice in cd/dvd RW brands...

1) Should be in fourm 42
2) Those are desktops, which dont run off batteries.
3) If you are going to make something like that yourself, you would need components that don't make a lot of heat, or a good cooling system.
4) try using a laptop battery.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

1. Good idea, didnt think of that...
2. I know that. i WANT it to though.
3. No i just need to know how to add a battery to an existing one.
4. Good idea!

In short, does anyone have some sort of schematic on how to run a pc like that off a laptop(or similar) battery?

And what about the Xbox Linux disk? Anyone got one of them?

I'm sure using a micro-itx or nano-itx 12V psu would work fine for it.

i thought about doing something similar but much larger (because at the time slotted processors where "the crap") for lan parties...no running off batteries of course.

it would be awsome for lan parties but i dont ever go any more so...yea

the site says:

Uses 120Watt AC Adapter. Input: universal 100 ~ 240V AC, 50-60Hz. Output: 19V DC, 6.3A, 120Watt. Controlled by Dual Mode Power button on the keyboard. Low power sleep mode saves energy.

19V @ 6.3A... thats going to be some horrible battery life!! The only thing icould personally suggest is; get one, and see what you can do about either removing the PSU and putting in a PC DC-DC PSU (mp3car.com has them i think) and try to run the whole thing from 12V, or mod the original PSU.

I have to have the beefiest laptop batteries on the market right now. They are 14.X V at 6800mAh. Each one was $150, and i have 3. You are probabbly going to spend just as much money on batteries than you will on that system.

I have been working on my own Portable PC. Im using a PSOne screen with RGB, Low in all-in-one mottherboard with a 450Mhz Celeron CPU, custom PSU (from Car ciggerette lighter adapters, once i get them) and my laptop batteries. You might want to concider doing something like that. BTW, Touchpads for laptops are PS/2 based. Some are USB. I have a PS/2 touchpad for my PC, and Xbox Linux (my controller has a touchpad!).

Well.. thats my input... and done being nice for the night.

what you have to do is figure out how to use a lap top power supply for desktop mother board, and they also used a lap top disk drive and probably a lap top hard drive, it seems like its all a matter of mixing parts. (Unless you wanted to use a lap top mobo, which you probably d0)

laptops are designed to have lower power reqirements. I dont think you will be able to use a laptop PSU on this thing. Not to mention, we dont knwo if the motherboard confroms to the ATX 2.0 PSU standards or not. You never know, this thing could say it want 16V but can take as low as 9V. And it being a P4 CPU, its going to be a power hungry beast. Try and get a celeron or EDEN class CPU. They arent as powerfull, but they dont use as much power. My laptop Lillith is a P4, and she is a power hungry moster!

ITX has a P4 motherboard (you buy the CPU) so you can power then thing with one of the ITX power supplies. Second is that well laptops are designed to be low power that doesnt mean they dont suck juice like desktops, my Athlon64 laptop will run about 2 maybe 3 hours on batteries alone.

As for the computer. I love it it a harken on to the good old days of the where computers where two items a computer and a monitor. I'd say its not a laptop motherboard, atleast not a brand name one. The price tells me they might be using either a generic brand or they possibly bought ITX motherboard is large qaunities (one is about $250).

I've thought about making a computer like that. However with my new toy its pointless til I have the funs up front and a new router (internet), then I'll delegat my current desktop to a sever like I plan with my Mac.
