Hi G-Force,
I've been looking forward to seeing your portable completed. I think its really great how you used a GBO as a case. I had one question, did you rebuild the control board for the hip gear screen, or did you just cut it off? I can't wait to read your write up on this so I can make my own.

NES pocket progress: 5%
Need:
Triwing screwdriver (to open GBO)
NOAC
New Hipgear (darn cheap ribbon cable)
Case: COMPLETED
GBO
To do: EVERYTHING ELSE

Very nice NES portable G-Force. Using the GBO case was a great idea. It looks very professional.

That looks great! I personally would've mae the cvartridge go onto the back of the case rather than an L.

Maybe this is what he meant.

This is how I would do mine but you would have to add a piece of metal or something to the top of the GBO to hold the cartridge connector to hold it in this position and the cart is bigger than the GBO so it would make holding it awkward.

Also that, and it would make it ungainly and uncomfortable to hold. Not to mention the annoying habit that NES games have of garbling and freezing when you touch them. I suppose this wouldn't be a problem if you used the same cartridge connector (didn't you say it worked very well in one of your posts or something?), but it would simply be annoying, especially for people with small hands that couldn't reach the buttons around the enormous NES cartridge and the total 1.5" thickness.

Have you ever held a NES cart underneath a GBO? It's imposible to hit the buttons with ease :P
I went through multiple design ideas, but I found this to be the only way to do it without making it huge or uncomfy. One idea was to have the cartridge in your pocket with wires going to the GBO, which really isn't that bad of an idea. But I think this is the perfect way to do it (or I wouldn't have done it :P )

I did desolder the adjust board wires, but I found out later that I need to be able to adjust the contrast and color or it will be too dark to play :(
And I did have the samrts to put a brightness adjust pot on the back. I knew it would need that.
So far I have only been able to get one pot at Radio Shack (is it just me or are they always out of the exact thing you need!). So once I get the other I will get that done and take a live action shot (how I don't know...do scanners scan LCD's all right?)

Hey! Little update thingie...
Yesterday I opened up the case and added two small pots, one for color, and one for contrast. I built them into the case since I don't see why I would need to adjust them.

Also, I fixed player 2 port problem...kinda... Before I "fixed it" the lightgun worked and the P2 controller did not. Now the P2 controller works but the lightgun does not! I have no idea why... I checked everything...
BTW the problem was I had the P2 orange wire going to P1 yellow. One pin off! :P

So while the case was open, I took a scan of the guts:

Yeah...it's horrible... :P But everything is neatly in place, believe it or not!

The how-to has been started, but I have been having trouble with some other stuff, so it's on the side right now... Don't worry I will finish it :) eventually... I did a lot of stuff on this thing so it's pretty hard to remember it all.
