GRRRR!! I hate video cards!!!!!!!!!!!!

i don't like my on-board video because it's slow and freezes a lot so i tried to install a video card i had laying around so i got a driver for it from windows update and it was going well untill i tried to set the resoution and stuff (1152X864 resolution 32 bit color) and the screen when black and it froze now whenever i boot with that video card, the screen goes black and it freezes . it made me so mad i might consider using linux if it can:
1. play games
2. play emulators
3. burn CDs
4. watch flash movies
5. play DVDs
6. download and install stuff
7. use windows media player and quick time
is there a version of linux that can do all that? if not, does anybody have an extra AGP video card with the right driver laying around i can have for free? sorry if it sounds like a rip-off, i'm just tired of stuff not working

7. No, but there are substitutes out there that play the same media.

You can use DOSbox to play DOS games, and there are Linux emulators for almost every console out there. (If there isn't one for the system you want to use play the DOS version in DOSbox.

Maybe you could boot your computer into Safe Mode and change the resolution of the video card and reboot? Or boot with the onboard video and uninstall the video card, restart, and re-install the video card?

Hmm, sounds kind of like one of those "hell froze over" things, ATI and NVIDIA in the same machine. The two companies would not be happy about this. As for your problem, take out the card that's not working and use the other one. Once your computer is working again, reinstall the card and get the new drivers from the company directly. For years, the first step in Windoze software installation has been "If your computer tells you that it has found new hardware, DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE FROM THAT DIALOGUE, cancel it out and insert the installation [insert media name here].

i don't know much of the specs, but here's what i know:
comp mobo: AMD 1.3ghz
video cards (currently not in computer): ATI card and Nvidia card. i don't know much about them so there's pics to help you find out what kind they look like
comp ram: 512mb DDR 333

that's all i know, i don't know if it'll help much

i think u can reset the setting on ur video card, there should be a jumper that resets it.

I had the same problem. Take out the video card and go into your bios and make sure you have the correct set-up for the graphics. Ie AGP or PCI. In my case (which is mest up) I have a AGP video card but i have to have the setting on PCI.

Then put your video card back in.

Makes a good point, I would just take out videocards, and reset it.

if that doesnt work. I would think about reformating and installing from scratch. be careful if you do.

i uninstalled the video cards so i'll just reinstall them later with a diferent driver and hopefully that will work
