that's understandable...but when your voltage divider voltage drops below whatever the threshold is for the logic family you're using, it won't work anymore. The 7805 will let you play longer than just trying to cut the voltage down. Besides, you would constantly be wasting power in the resistors. If you want to have longer play time, look up LDO regulators.

that would work...but i dare you to try to find 1 and 2 ohm resistors! If you're insistent un using this method, i'd use 10k and 20k ohm. But think of this. When your battery drops to about 6.5 volts, the output to your nintendo will only be 4.3v. Logic high is probably a 4v threshold, so you're bound to get some erratic behavior with your battery only dropping 1v. With an LDO regulator your battery can drop to about 5.7v on average before it drops out.

theoretically the resistors would work, i wasn't gonna use those numbers. to tell you the truth i just hate integrated circuits, chips, transistors, and what not. they make me feel like i cant do it myself. i suppose i will use the 7805, especially since charging the not dead batterys often will lead to a strong memory effect. im so stubborn.

Anyway, I dont like the 7805 personally. LDO regulators are much more efficient, which is defintely what you want in a battery powered situation. If you want to be really efficient, you could use a switching regulator, but we won't go there.

that's the most efficient you're going to get without resorting to a switching regulator configuration. Just make sure you don't leave out the input and output capacitors.
