sorry im new aka noob
can i hook up a battery to my psone and still be able to use the wall hook up.

the problem with a dpdt switch with the setup you are looking is that you have to be sure to switch it from the battery to the outlet so if your in the middle of a game and low on juice if you switch it the game will die but i think that is inviodible. If you are really intot this you could do some sort of make shift multimeter that justs detetcs the wall outlet current and then switches it from battery power to wall outlet power. Keep in mind that wont be easy and it will be of a decent size. If you do find something like that though please let me know i have been trying to do that for my n64 for sometime.

You all are making this way too hard. The best way to include uninteruptable power supply is using diodes. I have done this on my SNESP an I can play on batteries, plug the wall adapter in, pull out the batteries (and vice versa), and not have the system reset. The key is to get low forward drop (Schottky) diodes so that you don't lose too much voltage from your battery line.
The setup looks like this:

The diodes prevent (bad) reverse currents so long as you don't exceed their max voltage ratings.

PNPs aren't always designed for this, so getting a low forward voltage drop may not be easy. Also, if you don't pay attention to voltage levels and whether you hook you batteries to the emmitter or the collector, you could get current running into your batteries when you plug your wall adapter in.
The diodes I used were international rectifier 21DQ06. Digikey only has them on backorder and in lots of 5000 or more, so I got mine from Allied Electronics (they also don't have a minimum order fee, unlike Digikey). These diodes are 11 cents apiece, so they are pretty cheap. You can check out the datasheet there for the properties, but for my SNESP running about 450ma, I get a forward voltage drop hovering around .20V or so.

How did that one guy do it? I emailed him and he said he wired a batter repair kit (which i have) to the PSone power input thing (I really dont know what it is called) I have to of the power supplies so I felt the need to cut one open just to look and it looks something like this

That is the battery repair kit piece on the left and that is supposed to be the plug that goes into the PSone on the right, it has a single white wire in rubber in the middle and then a bunch of tiny grey wires around it. It would be great if someone who knows could share. thanks. PS I used blue in the background so you could see the white wires.

I'm pretty sure the outer fibers are the negative leads, and the inner insulated wire is the positive. But in case I'm wrong, wire it up with alligator clips that way, and take a multimeter and put the positive probe into the middle of the PSone connector, and touch the negative probe to the outside. The multimeter should say "+ [whatever]v". If so, it's wired correctly. If it shows "- [whatever]v", when reverse the positoive and negative clips an try again.

If you look at the connector, it will show you. There'll be a diagram that shows which polarity the outer and inner ones are. Also, if you're using rawls's, have a switch to cut the batteries out of the loop once you plug the adapter in so it doesn't waste unnecessary power. You could use a DPDT switch to change them over to a charger when there is an adapter.
