Case design software

I did few different searches in the forum for discussion of any CAD-like software you guys use to help design your cases, but I couldn't find anything. Do you guys have any particular favorite? It just wanna measure everything out to play with different possibilities of my NOACp. Thanks.

i use blender3d, pretty advanced and takes a while to learn how to use it but it's really good

Now, assuming I design something I like using eMachineShop, what material and thickness should I use?

I wouldn't use EMS for actually making it, they really do charge a lot. You can export it to a more universal format, IIRC. Do that, and bring it in to a CNC shop.

OK. CNC limits me to flat pieces, right? So in order to make the walls of the portable, I need multiple pieces of the same shape made? Maybe some of them would have gaps to leave openings for switches and pots. So do I just look at the case then as a whole bunch of different slices? If so, what thickness of which material should I base my designs on?

BTW, Thanks a lot. I'm really getting serious about finishing this. I'm very determined but I'm a programmer, not an engineer. So I appreciate the help.
