digital TV

as you probably know, all TV is going digital in 2009. would this make computer TV tuners unusable? you can see why i need one. do they make digital TV tuners or will i have to wait till 2009 to get one?

I'd assume that they'd have something like the cable boxes of yore, an external box that tuned the signals for your TV.

I think this whole "move everything to digital" idea is stupid. Regular RF signals work just fine for television.

Of course this will introduce all kinds of new copy-protection BS that will keep you from recording videos, DVDs, or computer files of TV shows...

Digital tv is still young. I havent seen or heard of any digital video capture cards. The problem with doing the thing is that the data that digital tv uses will fill up a hard drive fast, and encoding analoge takes a long time (for good quality) think what it would take for that kind that is saved by DVRs.

If you wait, as soon as a year they should have digital capture cards. Just be prepared to spend a lot of money. I'd expect them to start at about $500 or more.

they are going to make digital to analog converters, so just use that
