Update: (sorry for taking so long with this!)
I got my replacement 6532 RIOT chip over a week ago. It does not get hot like the one I zapped, but the board still does not work - it makes some colored pixels on the screen, but not anything recognizable. So now I suspect I also killed the CPU. So I got a cheap (local pickup) 6-switcher from the 'Bay, but guess what? It doesn't work either! Not even a black screen. If I'm lucky, tomorrow I may get a chance to play Dr. Frankenstein and do a brain transplant or something to get one of the two units working. If that fails I may be in the market for either another 6507 CPU or another console.

I swapped chips around between the two units today and nothing I did made any difference to either unit, which leaves a few possibilities:
A. The same chip is bad in both units.
B. Both units have something wrong with them other than bad chips (I checked voltage regulator output to be OK in both).
C. Both units have multiple faults.

So, rather than scratch my head and check every component on both boards until I go crazy, I will need another (known working) console to use to check all the ICs so I can sort out what's good and what's bad to see if I can salvage the board that I've been using for my new mod. I have an offer for a free console from someone at AA, so I'll take him up on it.

I know it's been a long time since I started this thread, here's the story:
The RIOT IC sold to me by Vintagefunworld.com was dead (they stuck it into plain white styrofoam, so naturally it got zapped), and it took me a long time to figure that out and get another one, then to find time to complete the work on my mod, and finally make up a web page about it.

Anyway, here's the page with my mod: A.J. Franzman's Atari VCS Composite Video Modifications

Some of you might notice that this mod is somewhat similar to Ben's second video mod. If you go back to the beginning of this thread, you'll notice that I actually began working on mine a few weeks before Ben released his, so any similarities are either coincidental, or a result of him reading what I wrote here
