How exclusive should the LPC be?

Very much so. This is a place for the best of the best.

I think its fine just put the mods of dp in charge of inviting people when they have enough knowledge or a portable built.

I say anyone who has made a sucessful portable should be able to join, but whoever has made more portables or whoever makes more challenging portables get higher ranks.

But what would the quilifications be for it, mod a system? I'm not being mean I'm just courious as to how you would become a member.
And I dont think being a member of this forum would work. We already have people here that are quite experianced and knowlegeable.

Okay, here's what I'm thinking is the best option so far:

Have a memberlist similar to what phpBB has. This will show all of the members, as well as something that shows experience. In addition, there will be a legacy link for the old lpc page, since god knows when some people will register. How do you like them apples? (I like granny smith)

And I prefer Red Delious.

Thats a nice idea but I think we should keep it simple with just a few qualifications. Expericance, portable(s) or possibly even mods. Keep it simple, stupid. We dont need to complicate things anymore then they already are.

about the portable idea. what about people who dont have access to cameras or scanners? My first three portables, NESP, NESP type 2, and the atari Were constructed without a camera, and were taken apart for parts since then.

So would you trust someone by their word? i mean, its obvious that someone that comes in the first day, asking how to solder and wire things, and then when they learn about ranks they say that they made a portable XBOX and dreamcast. That would be easy to detect.

So I would compare the intelligence of their posts, Their ability to stay on topic, and the things they've made to accuratley say: "well, this guys made several portables over a span of years, this guy deserves a (insert word of moderation or seniority).

So Without a camera, you may need to see their ability to explain the things they have created.

i like bicos idea to a point. i would technically be an inductee, seeing as how i have not finished a portable yet. but i have been on the forum for over a year, am a good, inteligent, helpful experienced member and have attempted no less than 3 different types of portable. with bicos method i would be an inductee, and that just doesnt mesh ya know :P i think length of membership on this forum/ portable attempts/failures/ and experience should count for somthing when in consideration for the LPC

Unless there is a huge objection by many people, this is how I am doing it.

First, this will reflect on everybody registered at PoD. Those that were on the old LPC will still get respcect, using a link on the bottom of the page. Maybe top. Somewhere.

Next, to show rankings, I will have the following:
Black star: User is registered, still a newbie. This would include trolls and what have you, but not all Black star members are trolls by any means.

Bronze star: User is knowledgable, has good knowledge, positive person towards community, etc. but has never made a portable (I think there will be more of these people than you would think)

Silver star: User has made one handheld

Gold star: User has made more than one handheld

I think this is best, since it compromises as much as possible, and I think compromise is the best solution to all problems (it's just sometimes hard to find the right one)

I like the ranks, but I think people who've made more challenging portables should get a higher rank. For example, dkap01 made only one portable, but it was the only known portable Dreamcast to date.

And maybe make the Gold rank be more than 2 portables. 3 or 4.

Just my $0.02.

He's also made a Jaguar64 portable and his PSp was featured on TSS and won the mod contest of I think '03.
