Portable Nintendo in 1 Week?

Post by MagicMaster12 »

I'm sorta new to everything around here, but i was wondering if I could build a NESp in 1 week. I have nothing, no parts, no soldering iron, not even Ben's book. I would start the whole project (ordering stuff included) either Friday night or Saturday Morning. I would order Ben's book via Amazon.com, and have it be 2 day shipping, this would set me at Tuesday. I would then need to go out and get all of the parts from where ever, 1-2 days. I would now be at Wednesday, possibly Thursday if I have to order parts from the internet. I have only taken the case apart and read this forum.

I'm trying to spend less then 200 dollars. I would have the PS1 screen most likely, and try to have it fit in a project box since I don't want to fool around with Vacuum Molding a case. I want it to have a 2nd player port, run off of a remote control car battery, Hook-up to the tv to play, and plug into the wall to charge or the car. That is about it, just post a comment and tell me if I'm crazy or if it is possible. Please keep in mind that I am new to building portables. Thanks for any replies.

It could happen, but seeing as you don't have a solderring iron, I doubt that you have any experience solderring. Because of that, and because this is your first portable, I really don't think you could do it. Perhaps if you didn't run into any problems, and if you worked nonstop everyday, then you might finish, but probably not, and you won't have what you hoped for.

My friend has actually volenteered to help with the soldering part. I'm trying to convince my dad to order the book tonight off Amazon.com. He also agreed to help me with the whole thing as long as he can have the first play. So now I think that it should go faster without a mistake because two people are working on it together. *Keeping fingers crossed*

if your friend is good at soldering and the book ships fast, it might be possible

Don't foget the parts that I'd have to buy. Nearby there is a Radio Shack, Circuit City, Gamestop, Wal-Mart, and a Craft Store (all in a little plaza area). I think I lucked out with all of those close to each other :D . I'm calling the Gamestop tommorow to see if they have a PS1 Screen, I'm hoping to get the PS1/Ps1 Screen Bundle so I can make another portable. I've got to go and think of a Logo I can spraypaint on. I might have my friend make something on Photoshop and printout so I can use it.

You can do it in a week. I just did my first one in a week exactly.

Get your screen at Circuit City - see if the have any Verge 5" LCD screens for either the Xbox, PS2 or Gamecube. They are all PSone screen clones and have the 5 wires you need to use coming off of the screen already. And they are $39.95. You can't beat that.

And watch out for the errors on pg 155 and 156. See my posts on that.

You could do it... Especially if you are getting a project box.

But my question is why rush? Most people have some troubleshooting and such to go through anyways so why not take you time make sure everything is right. You might want to read the Chapters of Bens book a few times to try to get an understanding of what you are going to do.
Trust me a Mistake is the last thing you want.

Is there any real reason you need it done in a week? Ex. Camp, Vacation, Wedding?

Well this is kind of a moot point now, since the thread's about a month old. ;)

My philosophy: "If you're going to do something, do it right". There's no sense in rushing together a portable in 1 week if it's just going to crap out on you the second you turn it on.

Or you could drink a LOT of caffinated drinks before you start and spend the whole 168 hours awake working on the thing.
